Cornell public sculpture
[edit]Hi Hstoops! I was looking around for places where there might be editors with connections to Cornell, and noticed your name in the Cornell WikiProject with a future graduation date. a) first off, the Charli boxes on your userpage are such a slay lol. b) I was wondering if you might know where to turn for image requests of Cornell's campus/if you would ever be willing to take images of landmarks on campus for Commons. I'm trying to find a picture of an artwork on Cornell's campus by Melvin Edwards installed outside Appel Commons (here's a very low quality image from when it was installed outside the Johnson Museum). The sculpture is in the public domain because of copyright technicalities (it was installed outdoors permanently before 1978). Absolutely no worries if you aren't sure where I could ask other editors for assistance on this, I know the Cornell WP seems defunct. And absolutely no pressure to go out and take a picture of the sculpture lol, just figured I'd ask! Hope you're having a good week. 19h00s (talk) 04:21, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi! I can take pictures (I have seen the statue countless times going to eat at the Appel Commons, so it wouldn't bother me to document the work). I'll see if I can get access to a Canon camera (I don't know if the IT cage of my college is open yet) but once I have a good camera, I'll document the statue. If there are any other pictures you would want me to take tell me, I love documenting stuff. Hstoops (talk) 17:42, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much!! I think that's the only sculpture/monument on Cornell's campus that I'm personally looking to use a photo of in an article right now - it was Edwards' first public sculpture commission back in '69. But WikiShootMe shows a bunch of other un-photographed landmarks/buildings/etc. on campus that might be useful to document, I usually use that tool when I go somewhere new so I know what might be useful to photograph.
- I really really appreciate your willingness to document this sculpture - if you're able, it would be super useful to get images from a few angles to show the different colors/elements, but even just one higher quality image would be amazing.
- Thanks again! Have a great weekend :) 19h00s (talk) 18:12, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi again :) I hope your year has been well so far! I just wanted to see if you'd had a chance to grab a pic of this sculpture - absolutely no worries if not, and I think I saw a video recently of snowfall at Cornell so I wouldn't blame you if you're just staying inside haha. But thank you again, and I hope it's warming up there! 19h00s (talk) 17:39, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
