The Amerivision Song Contest 2015 was the sixtieth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU), host broadcaster Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN). The edition was hosted in the Movistar Arena, in Santiago, Chile, as the country earned the right to host the event by winning the previous edition.

This edition became notable for being the edition with the highest number of participating countries at the time, with 42 nations taking part of the contest, including Japan, the first ABU affiliated nation to take part in the contest.

Both the Valparaíso and Viña del Mar bids would've required the construction of a roof on top of the venue in order to host the contest.

Participating countries

The edition was notable for the huge shift in participating nations from the previous year, all OM1re affiliated nations — French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint Pierre and Miquelon. — withdrew from the contest due to a reform in the broadcaster's selection system. But despite that, four other nations, Belize, Nicaragua, Panama and Saint Kitts and Nevis returned to the contest, and three others debuted in the contest. Those being Japan, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Japan was invited to participate of the Amerivision Song Contest with an automatic spot in the final due to the country's high viewership of the contest, as well as a form of celebrate the contest's sixtieth edition. This edition had the highest number of debuting nations in the contest since 1957.

Contest overview

The countries were split between two semifinals, with the countries being drawn into pots to decide in which semifinal they'd go in in order to avoid block voting, with the automatically qualified countries, those being the big five nations, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States, as well as the host country Colombia. being split into which semi-finals they would vote. This was the first edition where the running order wasn't decided randomly, instead, the countries would be raffled into either the first or second half of a semi-final and the producers would get to decide the running order based on what was raffled.
