	Amerivision Song Contest

The Amerivision Song Contest 2013 was the fifty-eighth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU), host broadcaster Canal 1. The edition was hosted in the Coliseo Cubierto El Campín, in Bogotá, Colombia, as the country earned the right to host the event by winning the previous edition.

The contest ended with the victory of underdogs Ecuador, with the song "Caminito", making the country the first to win the contest for the first time since Costa Rica in 2008.

Participating countries

This contest saw the return of three countries, the most notable one being Antigua and Barbuda, which participated for the first time since 1993, Belize also returned after a one year absence and Haiti returned for its first edition since the 2010 Haiti earthquake. On the other hand, Greenland withdrew from the contest after struggles to secure an artist to represent them in the contest, and Nicaragua decided to sit this contest out in order to promote a reform in its selection process, with the intent of returning in 2014.

Contest overview

The countries were split between two semifinals, with the countries being drawn into pots to decide in which semifinal they'd go in in order to avoid block voting, with the automatically qualified countries, those being the big four nations, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States, as well as the host country Colombia. being split into which semi-finals they would vote. This was the first edition where the running order wasn't decided randomly, instead, the countries would be raffled into either the first or second half of a semi-final and the producers would get to decide the running order based on what was raffled.
