Mohammed Al-Aidaroos (Arabic: محمد العيدروس), AKA Abo Yemen, is a Wikipedian who enjoys editing and creating articles usually related to South Arabian history, culture, and politics. Contrary to what you might infer from his username, he doesn't really love Yemen that much (at least for now).

Etymology

[edit]

The name Abo Yemen (Arabic: ابو يمن; also romanized as Abu Yemen), is an arabic term that is usually used in a degradetory context for Yemenites by Gulf Arabs. I decided to use this username for multiple reasons; It wasn't used before on wikipedia, I wanted to break the sterotype of the Khat-chewing Yemeni who does nothing of use and try to portray the Abo Yemen as a hardworking person who can do other things of use and hopefully that is what I am doing, and last but not least, I used it to humble myself while contributing to the greatest knowledge repository in human history. Oh yeah, it's also because I was forced to change my old name by Arabic Wikipedia admins :p

Understanding Creative Commons

[edit]

There are six different kinds of Creative Commons licences, which you can find here. CC licenses mix and match different terms. Those terms are BY (you must attribute the creator), SA (you must share under the same terms), NC (non-commercial use only), and ND (no derivatives, ie, you can't share something you've created based on that work).

Our license is WP:CC BY-SA. This means that anyone can use and re-share Wikipedia content for any purpose, both commercial and non-commercial, so long as they credit us (BY) and share the resulting work under the same license (SA). So for our purposes on Wikipedia, we can use anything that has one of these three CC tags: CC0, CC BY, and CC BY-SA.

The other four CC licenses aren't compatible with ours. They either contain the NC tag, the ND tag, or both. Because we allow commercial use and we allow sharing of derivative works, we can't copy anything that has been marked as "no derivatives" or "non-commercial only".
