Status
[edit]Frietjes: I see that this was created in 2019, and the documentation says it "is a temporary fix". What should happen with this? The recent discussion at Template talk:Infobox basketball biography § Maya Moore's external link for Women's Basketball Hall of Fame seems to not work, which Left guide resolved, seems to suggest that every new inductee needs to be manually added here, which most editors of Infobox basketball biography wouldn't know, nor is it user friendly. - Echoing some of these concerns; having to manually add individual names to this page whenever there are new inductees seems to create an extra maintenance burden (and is counterintuitive for those less experienced with templates). Probably simpler for most editors to just have the url hosted at the infobox template like all of the other basketball halls of fame there. Left guide (talk) 07:48, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Also, was there ever a discussion reaching consensus for this kind of split? It was quite a major change with a major impact on editor workload and template functionality. This template was created 30 November 2019, but searching the portion of Template talk:Infobox basketball biography/Archive 3 which corresponds with that time, I see no pertinent discussions there. - I suspect it was an obvious bug fix from a site url format shift. Frietjes is a usual go-to by a lot of sports editors for template help. —Bagumba (talk) 08:51, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Bagumba and Left guide, back in 2019 there was a change in the WBHOF website. this was only intended to exist until we were sure all the links were fixed. given that it is now over 5 years later, we can delete this. thank you for the reminder, I had forgotten about it. - I also implemented automatic generation of the link from {{#property:P4410}} for pages with up-to-date wikidata. If this every breaks again, it will need to be fixed in both {{Infobox college coach}} and {{Infobox basketball biography}}. Frietjes (talk) 14:26, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
