ShipGoo001

  • Source: "...the discovery of a brand-new species. But that's exactly what happened when UMD scientists examined the mysterious "ship goo" seen oozing from the R/V Blue Heron's rudder shaft during an unanticipated repair."[1]
  • "The goo looked like something his former graduate school associates at University of Oklahoma plucked from oil reservoirs to examine for organisms... Most of the sequences matched known genomes found elsewhere in the world, he said, but a few were less identifiable, including one that was completely novel. It's now known, at least temporarily, as ShipGoo001."[2]

  • @Tryptofish: The article is within the dates, hook is interesting and is cited properly. Though I do have some problems with the wording using "new". Could another hook be formulated? Arconning (talk) 11:58, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
@Arconning: Thanks so much for the review, much appreciated. I see your point, and I would be just as happy with the following:
  • ALT1: ... that goo from a ship might contain a previously undescribed life form?
