Lourdes Klitzkie

  • ... that runner Lourdes Klitzkie took up the sport in her late 30s to combat boredom but then qualified for the Olympics?

  • @Arconning: Copyright, interestingness, hook verification, spotcheck, QPQ, 5x expansion all check out. That being said, I've got two issues: first, I don't know if we've got her middle name correct. It's used on Olympedia, yes, but almost nowhere else.[2] Looking at newspaper articles from the time, as well as this post made by the university she taught at[3] (same image as the one Klitzkie provided to the Coloradoan), and they use the middle name Palomo. From looking at older Guam newspapers, I think that's her maiden name, but she appears to use it as her middle name (Maybe she was born Lourdes Mendiola Palomo, but dropped Mendiola upon her marriage to Bob Klitzkie?) Can you look into that?
Similarly, on DYKCOMPLETE, it's missing a bit of info about her life and previous career, namely, that she was a professor. I found a couple newspaper articles either about her or that mention her and might be usable, [4][5][6][7], and local person/human interest story about her education from before her time at the Olympics [8]. But yeah, post-Olympics she became a Professor Emeritus at the University of Guam [9] so the article probably needs to at least reference that for DYKCOMPLETE. That will help with my third thing too; although the article is technically long enough without quotes, if somebody copyedits this it could easily go under the minimum length. Adding information about her academic achievements should mitigate that risk. But apart from that, interesting article on an interesting person, well done!
