Source: "North Korea offers rare thanks to U.S. for help". Reuters. Archived from the original on 19 August 2018. Retrieved 27 July 2025. North Korea offered a rare note of thanks to long-time foe the United States for helping its sailors fend off an attack by pirates off the coast of Somalia. ...Christopher Hill, the top U.S. envoy to the nuclear talks, said last week: 'You will always find our Navy prepared to help any ship in distress. I hope the DPRK understands that we do this out of a sense of goodwill.' (non-primary source)
ALT1: ... that North Korea thanked the United States for helping its sailors defeat a group of pirates? Source: Same as ALT0.
Comment: The sentence in the Aftermath and analysis section that cites the same source here does not specifically mention the US Navy, but I think it should be fine in this case because the article mentions the US Navy throughout and adding a mention of the US Navy in that particular sentence would (in my opinion) come off as choppy and overly wordy.ALT1 is more straight-to-the-point and concise, but its wording is quite close to the original source's. I cannot think of a way to paraphrase the sentence without making the phrasing awkward because the idea itself is so brief. ALT1 might be more eye-catching because of its brevity, but I do not know how picky the approving editor and promoter will be about the paraphrasing.

Number of QPQs required: 1. Nominator has 36 past nominations.
Overall: QPQ done. Earwig says 18.7%, but I don't think it's too bad since it's picking up almost exclusively short phrases that are difficult to reword? Article is sourced and recently passed a GAN within 7 days of nomination. Article is neutral and long enough. Hook is interesting and source confirms hook. It is mentioned in the article, albeit worded differently. I think the nomination passes. In my opinion ALT1 is fine but it's up to whoever approves this nomination.
