Will take as part of WT:GARC#Circle #44; my last review was around three times the size when I started and that took around two weeks, so this should take 4-5 days. I did have a flick-through while I was waiting for others to accept and a few issues stick out:
- I would expect an article about a band to have information about a) what sort of music they make (which is in the infobox unsourced) and b) their influences/inspirations, which is totally missing.--Launchballer 11:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- They appear to have released a large number of singles prior to Roa including at least three hit singles. Did any of them get RS coverage?--Launchballer 11:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer, none of them seem to have gotten much RS coverage. History6042😊 (Contact me) 23:50, 5 June 2025 (UTC)

- I think the lead would deserve {{lead too short}}, but you can resolve that when you know what you're supposed to be summarising.--Launchballer 11:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Parts of this deserve {{overly detailed}} (for example, many of the voting numbers in the second paragraph of "Eurovision Song Contest 2025" belong in the "Iceland in the..." article and maybe in the song article), but I'll get to that as I go.--Launchballer 11:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- I can't get over the fact that {{infobox YouTube personality}} has rows for subscribers/views. It's WP:SINGLEVENDOR cruft. Needs yeeting. I'd even go so far as to say the template itself should be removed and the link moved to External links, but the continued survival of the template tells me there's probably some policy against that.--Launchballer 11:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- As Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson is at AfD and is likely to be merged into this article, I am probably going to wait for that to sort itself out before getting into the guts of this. You can remove the infobox link to Matthias's circular redirect while you're removing Hálfdán's link.--Launchballer 11:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer, all
Done, except the YouTube thing because I tried and it just wouldn't go away even when I removed the code for it. Also the AfD has been closed. If not done I responded inline. History6042😊 (Contact me) 23:59, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer, all
- It seems to be oozing in from Wikidata. I removed the infobox.--Launchballer 16:58, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Early life
[edit]- There's a fair amount of detail in this section that doesn't appear in The Kinks or Ben&Ben, both FAs featuring siblings, and which I think is too much detail for the band article. I'd pare the first seven sentences (everything before "In 2015") down to "
Hálfdán and Matthías were born in Kópavogur, Iceland, as two of six siblings.
", move the bit about "Rioum Rioum" to its chronological place in the History section, and merge both this and History into one section per MOS:OVERSECTION.--Launchballer 16:58, 6 June 2025 (UTC) - I noticed that ref 1 (eurovision.tv) says that Vaeb is pronounced 'vibe'. I think the IPA for this should be in the article.--Launchballer 16:58, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer, all
Done. History6042😊 (Contact me) 19:53, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer, all
- The pronunciation really should have a reference attached to it.--Launchballer 20:54, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
History
[edit]- Væb was created in 2022 to post a comedy TikTok song, "Aron Can (Borðar kál)" lit. 'Aron Can eating cabbage', as a tribute to the eponymous artist, which got enough views that the duo decided to release it on Spotify. Not seeing where either source says that the song was a tribute to Can, and the source doesn't say 'views' but 'attention', which could mean anything.--Launchballer 20:54, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- They made their debut in the recording industry with the studio album Væb tékk, released in September 2022. Their father is a choir director of the Rokkkór Íslands rock choir, which went on to record the 2022 single "Ríðum ríðum" together with Væb. With the remix of Ofboðslega frægur (2023), a collaboration with Ingi Bauer [is], they achieved their first commercial numbers, debuting inside the top 20 of the Tónlistinn. All three sentences are cited to a chart which verifies next to none of this.--Launchballer 20:54, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer, all
Done. The missing sources were from a mistake when I was combining the sections. History6042😊 (Contact me) 21:01, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer, all
- You just added WP:GENIUS for the first claim and a source that doesn't check out for Rioum Rioum. Also, both the top 20 and the last sentence are sourced to the chart themselves and I'd question their dueness for prose (they're already in the table anyway).--Launchballer 06:47, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- In February 2024, Væb participated in Söngvakeppnin This should be "that year's Songvakeppnin", with the link under "that year's" per MOS:EGG.--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- They were placed in semi-final one and competed on 17 February 2024. They received 7,347 votes, coming first and advancing to the finals.[10] In the finals, held on 2 March, they 29,282 votes. This got them fourth place.[11] This could easily be trimmed to
They advanced to the final, broadcast in March, where they came fourth
; the finer details are appropriate for the "Iceland in the" article.--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC) - Nevertheless, "Bíómynd" was the most popular song among those in the competition, resulting in the first and only one to enter the Icelandic top 10. Sourced to a chart and I don't see how this verifies anything other than the chart position.--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- They are signed to label Alda Music. This could date. I also notice that this source says that the band have released two albums (which isn't quite true, it's one album and one EP) and think this should be in the article. I recommend changing to "By February 2025, they had signed to Alda Music and had released the album Vaeb Tékk and the EP Vaebauer." (you don't need a source in prose for the word EP as it's cited in the Discography section).--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- They make electronic, dance, and pop music. What makes Viberate reliable?
- Væb have cited Yohanna and Sergey Stepanov as their Eurovision influences. I don't see how having fond memories of something or being a fan of acts is the same as being influenced by them. I'd cut this.--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
Eurovision Song Contest 2025
[edit]The section header needs yeeting per MOS:OVERSECTION.--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- The following year, 2025, Væb were selected again to participate in Söngvakeppnin. I recommend
Vaeb subsequently participated in the following year's Songvakeppnin
, with the link under "the following year".--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC) - Prior to the event, Icelandic online newspaper DV reported that their song "Róa" was accused of resembling the song "HaTunat HaShana" by Israeli singers Itay Levi [he] and Eyal Golan.[17] A video was then posted on TikTok comparing the two songs.[18] The duo denied the allegations, and the Söngvakeppnin board of directors sought advice from the Composers Rights Society of Iceland (STEF) to determine the similarity of the two songs.[19] Ríkisútvarpið later concluded that the song in question did not exhibit sufficient substantive similarity to constitute plagiarism.[20] This belongs on the song article, not the band's.--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
- They were placed in semi-final one and competed on 8 February 2025. They received 12,649 (30.40%) votes, coming first and advancing to the finals. In the finals, held on 22 February, they received 73 points from the jury and 36,535 televotes, or 93 points from the public vote, for a total of 167 points. This got them first place from both the jury and televote, and the right to represent Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. This could also be trimmed; I recommend
, which they won with "Roa"
.--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC) - Furthermore, "Róa" marked their best placement in the Tónlistinn, climbing up to 4th place, before reaching number one. Again, dueness.--Launchballer 10:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

- Before the contest, they started selling Ash Wednesday costumes online based on their outfits, in Iceland, Ash Wednesday is celebrated by children wearing costumes.[9] The items sold out quickly and they created a pop up store in Kringlan Mall on 7 March.[10] This could be trimmed to
They subsequently launched a line of Ash Wednesday costumes based on their outfits, which sold out immediately. They then set up a pop up store in Kringlan Hall.
Also, this would make a good DYK hook.--Launchballer 23:55, 7 June 2025 (UTC) - They opened the first Eurovision semi-final on 13 May[11] and finished as the sixth best scoring entry with 97 points, therefore qualifying to the final, as they were in the top ten.[12][13] At the final on 17 May, they performed 10th and placed 25th with 33 points.[14] Consider trimming to
At the Eurovision Song Contest semi-final, they placed sixth and qualified for the final, where they came 25th.

Other activities
[edit]For chronological reasons, I recommend moving this section's contents into the History section.
- Shortly after winning Söngvakeppnin in February 2025, Væb started semi-regularly posting comedic videos on their YouTube channel, including a Let's Play series of the video game Minecraft, gathering a cult following. Væb refer to their following as the "Væb Gang". Cited to their channel and to a YouTube interview. This needs a better source.--Launchballer 10:24, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
- In March 2025, Væb together with 5miinust, the 2024 Estonian entry for Eurovision, had participated in a fundraiser live stream, organised by Eurovision YouTuber ESC Gabe, to help raise money for Ukraine in the ongoing Russian invasion. At the end of the stream, they raised a total of US$3,952. Just noting that the source says 2023, but this is wrong, and quietly replacing it seems appropriate per WP:WSAW. (But if there is a better source, please add it!) I also note that the source says
During the stream, they played Eurovision trivia, ranked Icelandic entries, did karaoke, and reviewed fan art.
and I think this should be in the article.--Launchballer 10:24, 8 June 2025 (UTC)- Does this just mean to leave it, @Launchballer. History6042😊 (Contact me) 21:32, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
