Should Changkat Single Member Constituency and Tampines Changkat Single Member Constituency be the same constituency?
[edit]Paging @TheGreatSG'rean, Justanothersgwikieditor, and CrawlerGrey: I am writing this enquiry because I should point out that this belong to the same Changkat constituency (although the ward was renamed as such when it was merged into Tampines GRC in 1988), but if that is so, should the Changkat SMC be merged into the current Tampines Changkat Single Member Constituency? This is also evident when the MP who took care of the ward are the same (Aline Wong, then Irene Ng and Desmond Choo), and it is 100% sure that it is the same Changkat albeit renamed as such. - @TheGreatSG'rean, Justanothersgwikieditor, and ZKang123:, asking in case, should this be WP:MERGE with Changkat Single Member Constituency? Sculture65 (talk) 06:30, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- I have to admit it's a bit like a Ship of Theseus question. We kept redrawing boundaries, with some SMCs and GRCs coming back and go and even some reappeared in some form. This isn't really under my area of expertise nevertheless.--ZKang123 (talk · contribs) 07:06, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Sculture65 If there are any article linking to both of them being the same, yes we can merge them, else we might veer off to WP:SYNTHESIS and WP:OR. ~ JASWE (talk) 08:40, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Sculture65 If the area is almost the same, we can merge them, but I don't have knowledge of the 1984 map. TheGreatSG'rean (talk) 08:56, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- I mean, we can agree that the Changkat Single Member Constituency and Tampines Changkat Single Member Constituency are the same because it is also part of the Tampines GRC, but it is also considered as Changkat nevertheless; keep Tampines Changkat though the original Changkat will have to be merged as such. What do you think? Sculture65 (talk) 11:05, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- I like to say I do not agree that they are the same unless there is a reliable source or obvious comparative data. ~ JASWE (talk) 11:56, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @TheGreatSG'rean, Justanothersgwikieditor, and ZKang123:, after considering cases like Jalan Kayu SMC and Jalan Kayu Constituency for example, I think that this merge is not actually necessary so I am OK we can close this case. Besides, the comparative data for these that compare Changkat and Tampines Changkat are the same are insufficient so far. Now that the elections are over, we focus onto the post-election then. I think this case can be closed from here. Sculture65 (talk) 05:27, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
