"Legends of Equestria is a fully-featured MMORPG that has been a labor of love for over 5 years. Developed by a worldwide crew of volunteers, the game started as a fan-game project for the My Little Pony IP that has created the online world of Equestria without violating copyrights or trademarks but that has also expanded well beyond the original vision. LoE is ready to gallop forth on August 19th with what the team calls "Open Access Release", essentially Early Access. It is a free-to-play game that will continue to grow post-open access. Developers will include the first story arc but continue to grow the world and features list after the August 19th launch. The game is a family-friendly, pony-based pony-based MMORPG with all of the features that gamers expect including exploration, socialization and customization. There is a "large and committed moderation team" that keeps the environment safe for folks of all ages. This isn’t a game that only a specific fanbase can enjoy. We’ve worked passionately on this for years, and we believe that it’s something parents and children can enjoy and work through together, or be a relaxing break for more intense and combat-focused MMO players. Our Talent system, for example, allows players to choose a specification for their pony, from a wide variety of skill sets – magic, herbalism, mining, cooking, partying, and more – and develop their character according to that skill set. Fighting isn’t the only way to experience this game, and that’s something that we think sets Legends of Equestria apart. To celebrate the announcement of the project's Open Access launch, a new trailer was released that you can check out below. You can also find out more about the game, as well as check out the volunteer jobs postings by visiting the Legends of Equestria site."

"Legends of Equestria is a free-to-play MMORPG that has been in the works for over five years by a community of volunteers. Based on the popular My Little Pony (MLP) franchise, Legends of Equestria wants players to socialize and adventure in a colorful, safe world. Seeing that this My Little Pony MMORPG is a fan project and not affiliated with Hasbro, we're not completely sure just how it will hold its own if the copyright owner decides to shut it down. Anywa, the developers have announced an Open Access Release for August 19, which means that the game will be fully available for everyone to play, forever. Best of all, there won't be any profit coming from it, as no premium access or downloadable content is expected – you download the game and play it in its entirety. Probably a clever move to avoid it being shut down, and also great altogether for players, both parents and children. The team won't stop working with this Early Access kind of release, as they want to keep adding more content such as new storylines and zones. Legends of Equestria is a relaxing MMORPG where you can choose a skill set – magic, herbalism, mining, cooking, partying, and more – and there will be combat, but it won't contain gratuitous violence – you can expect weapons such as apples, cakes, pies, and horseshoes. You won't be able to upload your cutie mark as it would make moderation a nightmare, and you won't be able to have your own house. However, there are many customization options including mane and tail styles and colors, race, gender, color, eye color, accessories, and cutie marks. Here is a trailer for Legends of Equestria that should give you a good idea about the game. You can check the official website for more details and even see the open positions in case you want to contribute to the project."

"Last year, we did a Daily Grind asking about interest in a My Little Pony MMORPG, and y’all reminded me that we actually have one: Legends of Equestria, a fan-run MMO that has managed to exist for many long years (over 12 years!) in spite of Hasbro being Hasbro. But we have some sad news about the game this week, as apparently it’s having to shut down one of its servers as funding has dwindled. “The Legends of Equestria team have always been steadfast that we wouldn’t take any player money; LoE would always be free, and we’d support the cost of running the game through passive advertisements on our website and forum,” the volunteer devs write. “This has worked excellently for twelve whole years, but recent days have seen that funding start to run dry. It’s prompted some tough discussions within the team, and we’ve come to a difficult conclusion: in order to prolong the lifespan of the game as a whole, it’s time to sunset the Europonia server. We love everyone who has chosen, or continues to choose, that region as their play location; unfortunately, though, the player count there simply isn’t enough to justify the expense, and what it would mean for the longevity of the project as a whole. As such, the Europonia server will close in two weeks, on April 30th, 2024.” According to the missive, the Amareicas server will stay up, and it sounds like Europonia ponies will be playable on Amareicas too, albeit with a higher ping. The devs say their goal is to “keep Equestria alive for as long as [they] can” and that this isn’t the end of the game."
