Shortening article

[edit]

I'm taking off the templates indicating this article is too long and too detailed to serve its purpose (I agree). Today I've moved a lot of detail over to the article Tunisian independence so now this article focuses more on Lamine Bey's role. Hopefully this will address the concerns of the template.Mccapra (talk) 19:39, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Colourised image of subject

[edit]

Dear fellow page editors,

The infobox for this article contains an image that appears to have been colourised and edited from an original black-and-white image. While it looks like colourised images are permitted to exist in Wikimedia Commons (see Commons:Colorization), I do not believe it is appropriate to use such an image in a factual Wikipedia article, especially in this case, where it has been used to illustrate a real, historical person (who is the main subject of the article). Isn't the process of colourising historical photographs considered by many to be controversial? Presumably it makes unverifiable and inappropriate assumptions about the appearance of the subject. Furthermore, the supposed copyright status of this image is dubious, given that the colourisation and editing is likely to have been carried out recently. For these reasons, I tried to remove this image twice from the page, but my edits were reverted without explanation. Therefore, I would appreciate it if other editors could share their opinions on the use of the image, especially those who oppose the removal of the image. Many thanks, ModWilson (talk|contribs) 20:49, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Muhammad VIII !?

[edit]

Just came across this article and had a bit of a shock!

I've read a few things in French about Moncef Bey and Lamine Bey but they were never referred to as Mohamed (or Muhammad) VII and VIII. They were called, even in official documents, Moncef Bey (or le Bey Moncef) and Lamine Bey (or le Bey Lamine). In an official picture (1954) he's referred to as "Bey Sidi Mohamed Lamine I de Tunisie".

After independence and until his deposition, Lamine Bey was formally titled "Sa Majesté Sidi Mohamed Lamine Pacha Bey", and not that "Mohamed VIII" thing, a quaint Wikipedia invention if you ask me. Lubiesque (talk) 20:21, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article name change

[edit]

Changed the title to Lamine Bey (as in the French Wikipedia and all the French historical sources) It is essential to give a credible source to use the phony title Muhammad VIII al-Amin. Even after independence he continued to be called Lamine Bey (or Sidi Lamine Bey Pasha). Lubiesque (talk) 14:24, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Even the use of the title King of Tunisia in the article is problematic. While you can find Kingdom of Tunis, nowhere will you find the title King of Tunis or Tunisia. Before and after independence, the formal title of the beys of Tunis, including Lamine Bey, was Possessor of the Kingdom of Tunis (French: Possesseur du Royaume de Tunis). In the following French article from 1957 focusing on the passage from monarchy to republic, Lamine bey is formally titled Son Altesse (S.A.) Sidi Mohamed Lamine Pacha Bey, Possesseur du Royaume de Tunis. Note that he was styled His Highness, and not His Majesty. https://www.persee.fr/doc/polit_0032-342x_1957_num_22_5_2477 . --Lubiesque (talk) 14:50, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
