Why bloggaan : blogata?

[edit]

If the rule for quantitative gradation is that the consonant weakens when the contrary would produce two closed syllables, as the article claims, why is blogata produced? *Bloggata wouldn't have had two adjacent closed syllables. 62.73.72.3 (talk) 00:31, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

What's more, bloggaan does feature two adjacent closed syllables. So the rule would actually predict the exact opposite distribution to what this pair shows.--62.73.72.3 (talk) 00:34, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I think I've got it now after reading the article to the end - although I am still surprised that such an opaque pattern is applied to loanwords - but it may be useful to add a note to this example stating that an explanation for its apparent deviation from the formulated rule is found later in the article.--62.73.72.3 (talk) 01:13, 18 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
