Physical and legal location
[edit]The History section doesn't mention any physical locations. I feel this article is operating on the assumption that everyone just knows this kind of big tech company is based in the SF Bay Area and operates under US law, but these seem like pretty basic facts a global encyclopedia needs to include. Nagopaleen (talk) 19:44, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- This is an article about the service, not the company, is the basic reason why we're not going into detail about corporate factoids. -- ferret (talk) 20:49, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- There is no article for the company and the company has the same name as the product. It's difficult to imagine that it would actually be inappropriate to actually make this article provide information about Discord Inc. In fact, it would likely be better for the article to mainly be about the corporation and for its product to be a subsection.
- For example in the controversies section, corporate decisions that have very little to do with the product itself are discussed:
- "On January 27, 2021, Discord banned the r/WallStreetBets server during the GameStop short squeeze"
- In this example, Discord Inc. decided to ban that server, not the app itself.
- A similar argument can be made about the censorship section.
- Other examples in the history section are clearly about the corporation and not the product such as:
- - "In July 2021, Discord acquired Sentropy, an internet moderation company."
- Discord Inc. acquired Sentropy, not Discord the product.
- - "In August 2023, Discord cut 4% of its staff, laying off 40 employees as part of a restructuring effort."
- Again, corporate structure is being discussed.
- - "On April Fool's 2024, Discord accidentally broke the record of the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours."
- Factoids about the corporation publishing videos.
- - "Citron announced in April 2025 that he was stepping down as Discord's CEO"
- Again, corporate history.
- All-in-all it is clear that this article is a complete mess and the refusal to address the issue is questionable at best or motivated at worse 216.243.43.20 (talk) 08:08, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

I believe that some information about discord is not reliable and also false. I am doing research about apps and I know that the information is not all correct. 2603:6081:63F0:4280:48B2:CFB1:9220:98C0 (talk) 20:18, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

In the "Criticisms and controversies", "Bans" section, add a line about how they falsely banned people for sharing a Marvel Rivals image. Citation : https://www.indiatodaygaming.com/news/story/marvel-rivals-discord-controversy-users-report-perma-bans-over-shared-content-6694 . Specifically, add the following line:
In January 2025, Discord banned numerous users for sharing an image of the Marvel Rivals character Sue Storm, as its AI falsely detected it as child sexual abuse material. 65.92.109.65 (talk) 02:19, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
Not done - Wikipedia is not here for you to settle disputes or grudges you have. Unless you can provide evidence that this is being covered in reliable sources much wider than one random article in a small gaming magazine/website, then it is not due weight to include this. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 02:34, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Lately, a lot of Discord users have been falsely receiving violations or bans for out of context messages, being in servers that violate the Terms of Service or other strange reasons.
It is rumored that bans are happening because of automated moderation bot checks.
There is an entire subreddit documenting a plethora of users getting unfair violations (r/BannedFromDiscord) CoffeeMc'Coffee (talk) 12:05, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
Not done: Please be more specific about the edit you would like to be made, and cite reliable sources (Reddit is not considered a reliable source). Saucy[talk – contribs] 00:28, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
Add more controversies
[edit]Using maybe the most recent No Text To Speech's videos as sources. SommoTheYugo (talk) 18:40, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
- Not everything that users complain about is a controversy. Things have to disc used on reliable sources to be added this way. Masem (t) 18:59, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
