Recent changes in this entry
[edit]This Wikipedia entry popped up after the publication of my first book, Shutterbabe. I did not create it. It is not an autobiography, as the page now speculates. However, before my last book came out, The Red Book, my publishers (Hyperion) tried to fix dozens of inaccuracies. Now, following the publication of this essay I wrote in The Nation, the Wikipedia entry has been vastly changed again and has many missing elements. The most important are as follows:
1) The name of my second novel: The Red Book
2) That this second novel was long-listed for The Women's Prize for Fiction, formerly the Orange Prize: Women's Prize for Fiction Longlist
3) The existence of my first book, the bestselling Shutterbabe
4) Personal life. I don't care if the personal life is gone, but your readers in the past have liked to link me with my eldest son, Jacob Kogan, who played Young Spock in Star Trek, among many other roles. Insignificant to anyone except Trekkies, but they're usually a vocal bunch.
Less important:
1) I was born in Boston, yes, but I grew up in Potomac, MD: author bio 2) I lived in Paris from 1988-91, Moscow from 1991-92, New York from 1992-present day: author bio 3) As a photojournalist, I covered events in Israel, Afghanistan, the USSR coup, the Romanian revolution, Zimbabwe, LA girl gangs, crack and crime in DC, etc. Here are my photos: 4) I was exhibited at the inaugural Visa Pour L'Image Photojournalism Festival: — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.203.96.175 (talk) 14:08, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Please remove date rape reference
[edit]To Whom It May Concern:
I am Deborah Copaken, the subject of this biography. The second paragraph in the personal life section--though true--really, really bothers me, and I would be grateful if someone could please remove it who is not me. Yes, I wrote about being date raped in the Atlantic magazine, in conjunction with the Kavanaugh trials, but I did that to open a public discussion as to how prevalent date rape can be and how deep the wounds are. No woman who has been raped would ever want that to be something she is forever known for. Especially as part of her "personal life." Please, have some mercy. This is an act that was done TO me, not an act I chose or did myself. It took all of five minutes. And it was horrific. And, in my opinion, it does not belong in the section labeled "personal life." Others may disagree, but I'd rather not have to be reminded of being raped as part of my life's legacy. Thanks for your help with this.
If you want to add in new stuff in the personal life section, here are some relevant links:

Anyway, I hope whomever is reading this can understand my need not to be defined by what was done to me but rather by what I have done. Thank you for your consideration of removing the paragraph about being raped.
