This was just done by @BlueTurtles, but I note that zh wiki has separate articles on both (and not just zh). See Chinese sticky rice - Wikidata vs Stir-fried Glutinous Rice - Wikidata . Shouldn't we discuss such a merger first? Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 13:46, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Chinese character prefix for the merged location article “生炒” refers to “stir fried” which can be considered redundant in many contexts as it is generally always stir fried, with the suffix characters “糯米飯” remaining the same as the name in this article. The wiki data entry refers to an additional name for the dish, which is also noted in this article. See two recipes below which both indicate the stir frying step.

@BlueTurtles I'd feel more confident in this if the zh wiki articles were merged. Could you propose such a merger there? Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:36, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Hanyangprofessor2 Unfortunately my knowledge of the language doesn’t extend that far for knowing their wiki processes. If you know how, happy for you to start it. ~ BlueTurtles | talk 09:11, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@BlueTurtles Right. I remain unsure if the two topics are the same. Zh wiki may have an error, or we did an incorrect merge here. Perhaps for now it would be prudent to revert the merge, start a merge discussion, wait a few weeks to see if anyone has any thoughts on this (I am neutral, pending research into this for which I'd need more time, but tentatively I am not convinced that all sticky rise is stir friend - this page did not mention stir fry concept before the merge, did it? Compare https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stir-fried_glutinous_rice&oldid=1288651334 and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chinese_sticky_rice&oldid=1288651343), and then see what the consensus is (if there is nobody else commenting, then merge proposed by you could happen). Hi, I was coming here to look for the English name of youfan, and was surprised to see all this about stir-frying. Youfan is not stir-fried, it's steamed. Based on the discussion above, it sounds like there was an inappropriate merge. Youfan is different from whatever this stir-fried thing is. 76.182.77.241 (talk) 04:28, 7 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve taken another look at the sourcing in the article and removed the youfan translation as it couldn’t be supported. Also noting this initial article title translation was supported by the initial sources cited. ~ BlueTurtles | talk 09:50, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
