Keeping the topic of Retention policy and Auction rules
[edit]I know that the information would be available on other pages, but we need to give at least a brief of the rules and policies about the auction as this article would be the centre stage of attraction for the upcoming edition. Please share your opinions. Namaste! Wowlastic10 (talk)
- A summary of the rules would be enough, rather detailing it completely. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 09:55, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

Flags and selection tables
[edit]@Blue Square Thing and Wowlastic10: It's better to discuss it here before the 3rd revert to avoid Edit warring. Discuss it here! Vestrian24Bio 04:40, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'd say Blue Square Thing is right about flags and tables. Vestrian24Bio 04:40, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- I want the tables to be here as they will be protected here else they would be spammed in the personnel changes section. Wowlastic10 (talk) 09:39, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Wowlastic10: That's not a valid reason for keeping them here. If they're that much "spammed" you can request protection for List of 2025 Indian Premier League personnel changes as well. Vestrian24Bio 09:42, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- So, they'll get spammed elsewhere and then we'll have two different versions of the same table? That would seem tricky Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:12, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Blue Square Thing: What do you mean by
two different versions of the same table
, the table would only be displayed at the List of 2025 Indian Premier League personnel changes page. Vestrian24Bio 10:12, 12 January 2025 (UTC)- If it were also on this page there'd be two different versions. I'm happy enough with it being on the personnel changes page - although I do tend to think there's too much information in them Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:47, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

- MOS:FLAGS makes it clear that flags are inappropriate to include in articles such as this. Bare flags without a text link should certainly be avoided, yet seem to appear regularly and aren't challenged enough. My understanding is that once the individual season articles are created then the lists of players can be removed from here anyway? That certainly seems to have been the case on every previous version of these articles, isn't it? I'm not quite sure why we actually need the lists here anyway at this point – they can't really be used to help create season articles for teams. Fwiw the same issue with bare flags – sometimes using flagon – seem to impact season articles at times, particularly when they are being initially created. Perhaps some more eyes on those would be helpful? Most of last season's articles need to be changed to a format closer to that used at 2025 Chennai Super Kings season for squad tables at least (the auction stuff might be a little over detailed there, but it's got prose at least which is always nice to see). But there are some editors who actually need to read MOS:FLAGS Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:11, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- I agree with the squads table at 2025 Chennai Super Kings season, except for I don't think they should be divided as batters, wicket-keepers, all-rounders, bowlers due to MOS:ACCESS concerns. Instead, they should be added to a separate column titled "Role". Also, the tables should be made sortables. Take a look at 2024 Men's T20 World Cup squads for reference.
- Displaying flagicons in overall squads table could be useful for events like ILT20 or CPL which don't have individual season pages yet, but they are definitely not needed for IPL. I will create the remaining season articles this week and then the table can be removed from here.
- But I do think that we should include flagicons in the "Teams" section table to identify nationalties of coaches and captains. Vestrian24Bio 10:24, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- Flagicons by themselves are not OK in any circumstance on any sports article. There needs to be some kind of text alternative as well – this is basic accessibility. In the tables of players, the national team that they represent is a reasonable thing to include. Football squads do it slightly differently with an abbreviation, but there is a text alternative which is the key. The {{cr|IND}} format works; {{cricon|AFG}} doesn't work; {{flagicon|AFG}} is even worse.
- Fwiw, in my view the flags at 2024 Men's T20 World Cup squads are purely for decoration and I would remove all of them on basic accessibility grounds. They add nothing other than pretty colours to the article – and don't allow for any form of accessible alternative.
- In terms of coaches, they simply aren't representing their nation in any way shape or form at that point. MOS:FLAGS is really clear on this – it is simply not the case that a coaches nationality is in any way "pertinent to the purpose of the list or table itself".
- In terms of dividing up tables, I tend to agree. Personally I wouldn't bother to make them sortable though – this simply creates additional syntax. I've never understood the captain row – that seems to be a newer thing. One issue is that you'll end up with another column which bloats the table even more. Personally I'd argue that the salary and year signed columns are the least important in the context that they're being used – perhaps one or both of those could go? I'd be happy to experiment with different layouts for this sort of thing Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:47, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- I referred to 2024 Men's T20 World Cup squads for tables not having split headers and being sortables, not for flags. In my personal opinion, we don't need the "Year signed" nor a Role column. Maybe the salary bits can be a little more detailed in the "Auction" section and be removed from the squads table.
- As for the flags here, we could use the method used at 2024 Men's T20 World Cup statistics, there are no flags instead just a linked text in parenthesis (i.e.: (IND) or (AUS)) after the individual's name. Vestrian24Bio 11:05, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- There, though, they're representing that country. The key in this article isn't the national team, it's the IPL team. That has a legitimate place in the table Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:19, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Blue Square Thing: I've created a base sample at Template:Indian Premier League Teams by season preload/doc/example. Don't mind the errors, they'll be fixed when the actual data is entered.
- Any feedback and suggestions are appreciated from anyone! Vestrian24Bio 13:11, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- I will get to this - and I have lots of notes (as you would expect...) - but it'll be a day or two at least Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:19, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
Whilst I'm at it, "Year signed" is correct English, not "Signed year". I'm getting fed up correcting this. Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:20, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

Scorecard notes
[edit]I've removed a whole pile of really very trivial notes that had been added to the match scorecards. The article was in serious danger of setting a record for the longest, in terms of physical length, that we have on a cricket subject. These are really not notable in the majority of cases. Where they are I've kept them. Debuts there's a tradition of noting, and Archer's figures are notable enough to have received wide media coverage outside of India. But there were things being added that Wisden would never even note.
If anyone feels otherwise, please feel free to discuss here. Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:45, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

- Nothing from social media - I'd say. Vestrian24Bio 09:54, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- If it’s actually notable. I mean, really notable - highest score, best bowling etc - then I think that’s fair. But I tend to think it’s better to leave it off if there’s any doubt. There seem to be a lot of “records” that really aren’t that notable. Blue Square Thing (talk) 10:47, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I'd like to request an edit to the "2025 Indian Premier League" page to reflect recent developments. As of 9 May 2025, the tournament has been suspended indefinitely due to escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. The article should be updated as follows:
1. Add New Section: “Suspension” (before ‘Teams and standings’)
Suspension
[edit]On 9 May 2025, the 2025 Indian Premier League was suspended indefinitely due to escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision came after the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match was abandoned midway in Chandigarh following air raid sirens and security alerts. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cited national security and player safety concerns as the primary reasons for halting the tournament.
At the time of suspension, 58 matches had been completed, with 12 league matches and 4 playoff matches remaining. No official date for resumption or cancellation has been announced. Several matches had already been shifted or disrupted due to security risks, and public gatherings were being discouraged across northern states.
The suspension of the IPL amid a national emergency is unprecedented and has raised questions about the feasibility of continuing large sporting events during geopolitical crises.
2. Update Infobox
Fromdate = 23 March 2025
Todate = Suspended indefinitely (from 9 May 2025)
3. Update Lead Paragraph
Please add this to the end of the lead section:
The tournament was suspended indefinitely on 9 May 2025 due to rising security concerns stemming from the conflict between India and Pakistan.
4. Update "Schedule and results" section
At the end of the section, add:
The remaining 12 league matches and 4 playoff matches were not held following the suspension of the tournament on 9 May 2025. NotSOnovice (talk) 07:42, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

Cricket in lead
[edit]@BarntToust, agree with the need to mention cricket. But here, it's already in the first sentence of the background section; if that's not enough how about the short description instead? Vestrian24Bio 10:05, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- just the lede section. it's the first thing ya read when popping into an article itself. A person reading an article will read thru an entire lede section before getting to the background section. The short description including the term would also be another additional measure. BarntToust 16:20, 19 June 2025 (UTC)

I'll be adding more sections as I go instead of posting my entire review at once and having you wait for it
Please use the Done template or
strikethrough to indicate that a problem has been fixed, and add any comments/questions after the points that you have. [edit]After reading over the article multiple times, I've come to the conclusion that it is already GA status. Excellent work! I only have one suggestion, and whether or not you take it is your choice: In the Teams section, instead of putting the footnotes below the chart, you could put them below the article instead with the references.
