[edit]

We should change this article's name to "2025 Cambodian-Thai Conflict, given the scale and intensity of the clashes. TheIronBlade (talk) 12:51, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Cluster Munitions Law

[edit]

in 25th of July, Cambodia claimed Thailand used cluster munitions, which Cambodia claimed is a violation of international law. Neither Cambodia nor Thailand are part of the Convention on Cluster Munitions Which bans it, are there any other treaties or legislation that would back Cambodia's claims? On May 28, a Cambodian soldier was killed during a brief exchange of fire in the Mom Bei area, located in the Preah Vihear Border area on Cambodian territory. In early June, Cambodia attempted peaceful negotiations, but these efforts were met with refusal and non-cooperation from Thailand. Between June 12 and 22, Cambodia halted imports from Thailand in response to Thailand’s threats to block fuel, internet, and electricity, as well as its unilateral closure of the border with Cambodia. On June 15, Cambodia formally submitted an application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), seeking a legal solution to Thailand’s border violations. On June 19, a leaked phone call from the Thai Prime Minister to Hun Sen sparked outrage and destabilized Thai politics. On July 1, the Thai Prime Minister was suspended, further highlighting Thailand’s internal instability. On July 16, Thai soldiers stepped on a landmine in a disputed area for the first time and blamed Cambodia, an accusation that Cambodia denied. On July 23, a second landmine incident occurred in another disputed area, injuring five Thai soldiers. Thailand reacted emotionally by expelling the Cambodian ambassador and recalling its own ambassador from Phnom Penh. Between July 23 and 24, the Second Army General shut down borders and blocked visitors from both sides from entering the Ta Muen Thom Temple. Thailand then opened fire, igniting an aggressive conflict. In the early morning of July 24, Thailand launched a deliberate and unlawful military attack on Cambodia, which was considered a serious violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Between July 25 and 26, Thailand continued its attacks across various areas of Cambodian territory, causing extensive damage to the Preah Vihear Temple, destroying the pagoda, and displacing civilians. On July 27, despite efforts by US President Donald Trump to mediate a ceasefire, the Thai military continued launching additional attacks into Cambodian territory. 175.100.10.234 (talk) 10:34, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Thanks for your suggestion and interest in this article. However, I am rejecting this for three reasons - firstly, you have not provided any cited sources for the above text, which is required by WP:V. Secondly, the text seems like a hard-to-read wall of text currently. And thirdly, this article is in the process of being merged to 2025 Cambodia–Thailand border conflict and won't exist for much longer. If you have concrete suggestions for improvement at the merged article, please request that at the talk page there, Talk:2025 Cambodia–Thailand border conflict and make sure to keep the changes short and readable, as well as properly cited.
