blog.roblox.com and corp.roblox.com

I am currently attempting to make improvements to the Roblox article and there are several instances where I would need to cite the official Roblox website and its update feed as an appropriate application of a primary source. However, the entirety of the roblox.com domain is on the spam blacklist, and while I do understand why roblox.com itself is blacklisted, this prevents me and other editors from citing blog.roblox.com and corp.roblox.com, which are the official Roblox news feed sites. This is even more a problem because these sites are the only places where all of the platforms major updates are logged, meaning that the absence of them causes a giant gap in the coverage of the platforms history. I can't even add archive urls to the pages that are whitelisted. And while I could request that only specific pages that I absolutely need be whitelisted (and I will do this if whitelisting the whole blog domains are rejected), this would still leave the requirement that future improvements to the article that have to cite either come here. Basically, I do not think it is feasible, or possible, to drastically improve the article for Roblox and maintain it for the future unless the entirety of blog.roblox.com and corp.roblox.com are whitelisted. (Quick side note for the sake of context: blog.roblox.com is a historical url that no longer exists and now redirects to corp.roblox.com, but is the url that every news post up until 2023 or so used, and therefore is the domain that every archive link on IA contains.)

Also, while roblox.com definitely can be used as a spam url itself, blog.roblox.com and corp.roblox.com are operated entirely by the company itself, does not allow any url hosting or user-generated content, and therefore does not host any material that could resemble spam. So I really don't think there would be an issue with whitelisting the entirety of both domains. But again, I would understand this is too broad of a request to make, so if necessary, I will provide the specific post urls that I believe are absolutely necessary. λ NegativeMP1 06:52, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

@NegativeMP1: no Declined, you will have to update this with the very specific blog. and corp. links, not the whole subdomain. This would allow everyone to add blog.roblox.com links everywhere on Wikipedia, and that was just the reason this was blocked. See also MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/December_2024#www.blog.roblox.com, where blog.roblox.com was discarded as well (though for other reasons). I also note that these are primary sources on Roblox (nothing wrong per sé, if there are secondary sources that can confirm the information). --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:47, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
The problem here is that there is a lot of information that is not confirmed in secondary sources, and that as I already said, this would be considered an appropriate usage of primary sourcing. And my goal here is infact to whitelist the entirety of the blog. and corp. links in general, as again, I believe they are essential to any actually complete, proper coverage of Roblox. And isn't the spam blacklist meant to target... well, spam? Which I made clear that blog. and corp. aren't, and are in fact official sites that cannot host spam or be spam on their own, but only at the discretion or fault of editors. Also, there's still the issue of Internet Archive links not working, but I suppose that's fine. I'll get back to this nomination tomorrow with specific links that I think need to be whitelisted. λ NegativeMP1 10:03, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
@NegativeMP1 that was just what got the other request declined. If there are no secondary sources talking about it, maybe it is not suitable to be included in the encyclopedia? (I'm trying to find the original blacklisting reasons/diffs to figure out why this was blacklisted, I'm not sure whether the blog was not included in that, maybe not corp). Dirk Beetstra T C 10:43, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

@Beetstra: Okay, I'm back with the few links. I've narrowed it down to the two that I think are absolutely needed. And since you're concerned about whether or not the material would belong in an encyclopedia, I'll provide a rationale for both

  • Link requested to be whitelisted: blog.roblox.com/2007/08/builders-club-is-coming - Contains information about the platform's subscription service, which is covered in reliable secondary sources, but they don't cover it's origins / when it was introduced, or what its original purpose was. Needed for a proper overview of it.
  • Link requested to be whitelisted: blog.roblox.com/2016/03/saying-goodbye-to-tickets/ - Contains information about the platform's former secondary currency. While reliable sources mention that it used to exist, I don't think that a proper overview of the sites history can exist without giving some background and context to it.

I'd also like for their archive links to be included.

  • Link requested to be whitelisted: web.archive.org/web/20211005094543/blog.roblox.com/2007/08/builders-club-is-here/
  • Link requested to be whitelisted: web.archive.org/web/20160718223037/blog.roblox.com/2016/03/saying-goodbye-to-tickets/

I'll be sure to include only specific links in future requests. λ NegativeMP1 20:57, 5 February 2025 (UTC)

The Veronica Mars movie kickstarter

I'd like to link to www.kickstarter.com/projects/559914737/the-veronica-mars-movie-project in general, not just from Veronica Mars (film). Specifically, I triggered the filter trying to add it to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Veronica Mars (character). It's an historical, notable 2013 campaign resulting in a successful film that hasn't been used for fundraising for a dozen years. I don't know how this works--can that URL just be whitelisted everywhere, or on pages with "Veronica Mars" in any part of the title, or what? This is my first submission here, and I can't find a previous discussion on the exception, so... does its current use predate the blacklist entry? Jclemens (talk) 22:06, 8 February 2025 (UTC)

@Jclemens: plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. Whitelisted links can be used anywhere (so it needs to be used with common sense). --Dirk Beetstra T C 04:47, 9 February 2025 (UTC)

snot.xyz

  1. This page should be whitelisted because it's the official website of rapper Snot. Other artists have their websites displayed in their infobox with an .xyz domain, like rapper Ken Carson. It makes sense for the same for Snot. RodeoWrld (talk) 16:29, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

  1. this is the official site for movement blockchain project. This has info about the movement project as well as move programming language it uses. This is blocked because of the tld. Please whitelist this domain.

Greetings team

People from my organization few years back added their direct website link instead of wiki link to the wiki page over and over without understanding the guidelines and community rules by wiki. The page they added Scalefusion URL to was the 'List of MDM software' Wikipedia page. Now, when I joined new in the org. and tried to add our name to wiki list again as an added MDM provider in the market and added LinkedIn page link there, It got removed again. Then I did my research and got to know from reputed employees of Wikipedia on LinkedIn (Mohanananda) that wiki doesn't allow website links so they banned my organization's URL few years back. So, I request you to please lift the ban from the given URL and I will make sure that we don't put it up there unnecessarily. I am aware now about the process and how link addition work on page and reference. Please help me and lift the URL ban and I assure to follow guidelines.

I assure this spamming will not happen again from our end. Please consider this as a request and I will be grateful to you.

I request to whitelist the domain as it is a recognized org. in the market and is cited by so many listicles and unpaid PR articles which I can share if required. Sakshi Singh Das (talk) 06:51, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

no Declined. You're asking for an entire domain to be removed from the blacklist. That is done at MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist#Proposed_removals. You'll note that the instructions there state "Requests from site owners or anyone with a conflict of interest will be declined" and this request is a spectacular example of why we decline those.
