Hebbar Iyengar or Hebbari Srivaishnava is a caste of Hindu Brahmins of Tamil and Kannada origin whose members follow the Visishtadvaita philosophy propounded by Ramanuja. They are found primarily in the Indian state of Karnataka especially in Southern Districts. [citation needed] They speak Hebbar Tamil, a minority dialect and follow the Visishtadvaita philosophy propounded by Ramanuja.[1][2]
Some famous Hebbar Iyengar people
[edit]Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar, the famous yogacharya, belongs to Hebbar Iyengar community. The family of R Radhakrishna from Malleswaram, who is famous for his cooking, brought out a book Hebbar Iyengar Thalikku, a book of recipes, on his 81st birthday.[3] Actress Vasundhara Das was born into a Hebbar Iyengar Brahmin family in Bangalore.[4]
