Vinay Kumar Tiwari (born 5 October 1974) is an Indian lyricist, poet, and cultural contributor working primarily in the Khortha language. His work focuses on the folk traditions and literary culture of Jharkhand. Tiwari has written songs for various folk artists and collaborated with regional radio and television outlets in Jharkhand.[1][2]

Early life

Tiwari was born in Roam village, Topchanchi block, Dhanbad district, Jharkhand. His parents are Hari Prasad Tiwari and Bela Rani. He completed his graduation with Honours in Economics and pursued a postgraduate degree in Hindi Literature from Ranchi University.[3]

Career

Tiwari began writing poetry and songs from a young age and became active in Khortha-language folk music. His songs have been performed by artists including Sharda Sinha, Mukund Nayak, Savita Devi, and others.[4]

He has written lyrics for songs featured in the Doordarshan Ranchi series "Jharkhandi Lokrang" and composed for Akashvani Ranchi programs.[5] In addition, he has worked on literary efforts to preserve and promote Khortha literature and oral traditions.

Tiwari has authored a book titled *History of Khortha Folk Songs*, which documents the development of the genre and its cultural significance.

Contributions

Tiwari is involved in various efforts to promote Khortha language and literature. He has worked with Ranchi University in the development of Khortha literature curriculum and has advocated for the inclusion of Khortha in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India.

In 2025, Tiwari received the **Jharkhand Prahari Samman** from Dr. Netra Prasad Paudyal of Kiel University for his contribution to regional literature and culture[6].[7]

He was also honored with the **Birsa Munda Jyoti Samman** and **Vishwa Pratibha International Samman** in Nepal for his literary work.[8]

Personal life

Tiwari is married to Swati Tiwari and has two sons. He continues to reside in Jharkhand and remains active in cultural and literary initiatives.
