Comment: Likely notable, but as written this would be WP:TNT based on the advertorial tone and brochure-like style. Needs extensive cleanup (likely just removal of a lot of information). Also, please read WP:COI and WP:PAID and make the appropriate disclosure if applicable. CNMall41 (talk) 17:04, 9 April 2025 (UTC)

THE PIG is a group of boutique hotels in England, known for combining informal hospitality with a focus on locally sourced food and kitchen garden produce. British hotelier Robin Hutson and his wife, Judy Hutson, founded THE PIG in 2011. Prior to this venture, Robin Hutson co-founded the Hotel du Vin chain.[1]
History
[edit]In 2011, British hotelier Robin Hutson and his wife Judy Hutson opened the first PIG hotel in Brockenhurst, within the New Forest National Park in Hampshire.[2]
Later, the group expanded with the opening of THE PIG-in the wall in Southampton in 2012.[3] Subsequent properties were launched over the following decade.
In April 2022, private equity firm KSL Capital Partners acquired the Lime Wood Group, the parent company of THE PIG hotels, with plans to support further expansion. Robin Hutson continued as chairman, and Tom Ross, formerly group operations director, became managing director.[4]
In July 2024, Robin and Judy Hutson announced their retirement from the business, ending their active involvement after over a decade of development.[5]
Properties
[edit]As of 2025, the PIG hotel group operates several hotels across southern England. The properties are typically located in rural or coastal areas and are often housed in converted historic buildings.
THE PIG, Brockenhurst, Hampshire – Opened in 2011, the first property is situated in a 17th-century country house in the New Forest.[6]
THE PIG-in the Wall, Southampton – Opened in 2012, located within the medieval walls of Southampton, this smaller property contains 12 bedrooms.[7]
THE PIG-near Bath, Somerset – Launched in 2014 in a Georgian country house on the Mendip Hills.[8]
THE PIG-on the Beach, Studland, Dorset – Also opened in 2014, situated in a former coastal villa with views across Studland Bay.[9]
THE PIG-at Combe, Devon – Opened in 2016 near Honiton, the property occupies a Grade I-listed Elizabethan manor.[10]
THE PIG-at Bridge Place, Kent – Opened in 2019, located in a 17th-century red-brick mansion near Canterbury.[11]
THE PIG-at Harlyn Bay, Cornwall – Launched in 2020, based in a Grade II-listed house near Padstow.[12]
THE PIG-in the South Downs, West Sussex – Opened in 2021 near Arundel, in a country house set within the South Downs National Park.[13]
THE PIG-in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire – Opened in 2024 in Barnsley, the hotel occupies a 17th-century property with gardens originally designed by Rosemary Verey.[14]
THE PIG-on the Farm, Warwickshire – Scheduled to open in late 2025 near Stratford-upon-Avon, on a 53-acre estate centred on a 16th-century manor house.[15]
THE PIG-at Groombridge, Kent – Planned to open in 2026 in a historic moated manor house in the village of Groombridge, near Tunbridge Wells.[16]
Design and Concept
[edit]THE PIG hotel group is known for its informal and rustic design style, with an emphasis on local sourcing and environmental sustainability. Interiors are designed by Judy Hutson, co-founder of the brand, who uses a mixture of antique, reclaimed, and vintage furniture to give each property a distinctive "shabby-chic" aesthetic.[17]
Each hotel includes a kitchen garden, which supplies produce directly to the on-site restaurant.[18]
Some hotels also incorporate features that reflect their regional environment. For example, THE PIG-in the South Downs includes a small vineyard on the property.[19]
Sustainability
[edit]THE PIG is known for its "25-mile menu" approach, in which restaurants prioritise ingredients grown in on-site kitchen gardens or sourced from local suppliers within a 25-mile radius. This model supports regional producers and reduces food-related transport emissions.[20]
In June 2024, the group received B Corporation certification.[21] That same year, the Pig hotels were awarded Sustainable Hotel of the Year at The Catey Awards, recognising their efforts in sustainability across the hospitality sector.[22]
Reception and Awards
[edit]In 2016, the group was named "Most Innovative Hotel Group in the Last 10 Years" at The Telegraph's Ultratravel Awards.[23]
Individual properties have also received critical acclaim. THE PIG-at Combe in Devon was included in the Condé Nast Traveler Hot List of the world’s best new hotels in 2017.[24]
In 2023, THE PIG hotel group received the AA Sustainable Award, which recognises a hospitality business demonstrating outstanding commitment to environmental and community responsibility.[25]
Founders Robin and Judy Hutson were presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Boutique Hotelier Awards, in recognition of their contribution to the British hotel industry.[26]
