Serhii Kaminskyi
[edit]Early Life and Education
[edit]Serhii Kaminskyi is a Ukrainian entrepreneur and inventor, originating from the Kirovohrad region of Ukraine.[1] His academic background includes a Master of Engineering (M. Eng.) in Shipbuilding technology from Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding.[2] He is a materials scientist and an engineer.[3]
Kaminskyi‘s shipbuilding work covered complex engineering principles, materials science, and the intricacies of large-scale manufacturing processes. His subsequent roles in creating and managing large productions, as well as consulting for numerous renewable energy startups, addressed multifaceted challenges of deep-tech hardware innovation.[4] This engineering perspective was a significant asset in Kaminskyi’s work on the design, development, and eventual scaling of advanced energy storage systems at SorbiForce.
On May 9, 2025, Kaminskyi was conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) in Scottsdale, Arizona.[5] This formal recognition acknowledged his contributions to innovation, invention, and energy manufacturing.
Career Before SorbiForce
[edit]Before establishing SorbiForce, Kaminskyi founded Clean Energy Technologies in May 2015. Clean Energy Technologies developed the foundational technology for SorbiForce and continues to provide advanced research and innovation services on a contractual basis.[6] Kaminskyi has extensive experience in creating and managing large-scale productions and has consulted for over ten startups within the renewable energy sector.[7]
Kaminskyi began developing the battery concept that underpins SorbiForce in the late 2010s.[8] Kaminskyi‘s research group was operating from an R&D Center opened in 2019 on the premises of the Promprylad.Renovation innovation center in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, and received direct support from the Nobel Foundation.[9] The support specifically focused on the research group’s development of unique carbon-based batteries utilizing agricultural waste,[10] which is the core technology that defines SorbiForce.
Founding SorbiForce, Inc.
[edit]Kaminskyi co-founded SorbiForce, Inc. in August 2022 alongside Oleg Sheremeta, who serves as Chief Business Development Officer.[11] Kaminskyi holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is recognized as the originator of the company's core idea.[12]
SorbiForce was initially incubated in Ukraine at the Promprylad.Renovation innovation center, where Kaminskyi's R&D laboratory was situated.[13] SorbiForce subsequently relocated its headquarters to the U.S., establishing its operational base in Phoenix, Arizona, with its legal headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.[14] Relocating to the U.S. was a business decision driven by the necessity to access key markets, investment capital, and a more stable environment for scaling deep-tech innovation. Kaminskyi articulated this global perspective, stating, "I am a citizen of the planet. I have no borders. I don't like any borders. And I'm trying to think globally....to be a global company you have to be at the cutting edge of this, in the center of the revolution. And now this revolution is in the United States."[15] Sorbiforce continues to acknowledge and value its Ukrainian scientific roots even though its headquarters are in the US.[16]
Leadership and Vision at SorbiForce
[edit]As CEO, Kaminskyi leads a team of scientists – many of whom relocated from Ukraine to Phoenix, Arizona – to achieve SorbiForce's mission.[17] His vision for SorbiForce recognizes the untapped potential of the 2.1 billion tons of agricultural waste generated annually, which Kaminskyi saw as a viable solution to the environmental and safety challenges posed by conventional batteries. [18] By 2021, SorbiForce successfully developed a 2 kWh working prototype of a nonmetal, nonflammable battery that utilizes agricultural waste, natural salts, water, and other sustainable materials to provide industrial energy storage services.[19] As of June 2025, SorbiForce has a 10 kWh prototype[20] and is preparing more than 200 kWh of batteries for pilot projects by the end of 2025.[21]
Kaminskyi's broader vision extends beyond just storing energy; he aims to transform how energy is produced, preserved, and perceived, emphasizing the critical need to store abundant but intermittent clean energy effectively.[22] His stated mission for SorbiForce is to build "tools for energy independence, sustainability, and resilience," facilitating humanity's complete transition to renewable energy sources through sustainable batteries.[23] He also advocates for "decentralization in the energy sector" as a global objective, viewing batteries as a crucial element for achieving resilience and independence in energy supply.[24] Kaminskyi’s approach emphasizes the importance of building "real things, not just presentations," and encourages the tackling of "hard problems" with both focus and commitment. He has stated he desires to leave behind "something significant" and "tangible tools that deliver results for a new civilization."[25] He has also described SorbiForce as "the Google of battery storage,"[26] reflecting ambitious goals for the company and its impact.
Publications and Research
[edit]Kaminskyi leads a dedicated R&D center and is a materials scientist.[27] As of April 2023, his research group in Ukraine was the only one in the country to receive support from the Nobel Foundation.[28] Additionally, Kaminskyi is a co-author of the academic paper "The Role of the Circular Economy in Advancing Environmentally Sustainable Industrial Production," published in the Grassroots Journal of Natural Resources, Vol.7, No.3 (December 2024).[29] This paper reinforces SorbiForce's approach to sustainability.
Personal Views/Philosophy
[edit]Kaminskyi regularly emphasizes his global perspective, saying in 2023: “So actually, I am a citizen of the planet. I have no borders. I don’t like any borders. And I’m trying to think globally.” [30] In the same interview, Kaminskyi spoke of strategically positioning SorbiForce at the "cutting edge" of the energy revolution, which he believes is currently centered in the United States.
A core tenet of his philosophy is the conviction that "waste is value," and that significant value can be derived from agricultural waste.[31] He expresses a strong commitment to building "real things, not just presentations," and encourages tackling "hard problems.”[32] he has stated that his ultimate goal is to leave behind "something significant" and "tangible tools that deliver results for a new civilization."[33] He consistently emphasizes the critical importance of energy independence, sustainability, and resilience.[34] Furthermore, he aims for decentralization in the energy sector, viewing batteries as vital to achieving energy independence and realizing its benefits.[35]
