Brown, known professionally as Kkaydes[a] (pronounced KAY-des), is a Canadian-born[2] Jamaican[2] singer, songwriter, and record producer from Brampton.[3]

Early life

[edit]

He was born in Brampton, Ontario, to two Jamaican parents. His mother named him after "Jeremiah", which was the name of a biblical prophet. He also has British, Indian, and possibly White ancestry.[b] He was mainly raised by his mother and his step-father, who would often abuse[c] him and his little brothers. Kkaydes' father was in jail and released after he was born. He referenced his trauma from multiple incidents in multiple songs. He attended Bramalea Secondary School. At age eleven, Kkaydes was falsely diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

He was only depressed throughout his middle school years since his body was in disarray due to spending too much time on electronics during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kkaydes believes he could have done more during that period. His interest in music initially started after listening to songs from artists such Juice Wrld and XXXTentacion. In middle school, during music classes, he'd learn how to play instruments such as the guitar, piano or the xylophone

[edit]

Initially, he wanted to be a gamer.[2][3] He later began his musical career under the moniker Lil KJ in 2020,[d] initially uploading his early tracks on BandLab because of his fascination of music and his want to make a change in the world. Later began releasing music independently in May 2020, including songs such as "Toronto State of Mind" and "You Suck, Kkaydes later went on hiatus. Later, he would then continue uploading small snippets of his songs that he would either soon release or keep unreleased for a while preserving release. An example was for a song featured in his debut studio album, Scarlet. Kkaydes released his his first official mixtape, originally called Archive, on May 22, 2020, alongside the original version of the song "Toronto State of Mind" later remixed for for the rebranding of the mixtape.

Musical style

[edit]

His music explored a wide variety of genres, including hip-hop, pop, trap, lo-fi, indie rock, electronic and punk rock present his musical versatility. Kkaydes can change his vocal style depending on the type of song he's performing on.

[edit]
