Kendal Shell

[edit]

Kendal Shell (born January 26, 1993) is an American sports media executive, former collegiate basketball player, and creative entrepreneur. He is best known for his role as Vice President of Content Partnerships and Strategy at PlayersTV, the first athlete-owned media network, where he contributes to the production and strategic development of original athlete-led content. Shell is also recognized for his work in community mentorship and his contributions to the growth of athlete-owned storytelling platforms.

Early Life and Education

[edit]

Shell was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Webster Groves High School, where he excelled in both academics and athletics. As a four-year varsity basketball letterwinner, Shell captained his team during his senior year, leading them to a 24–5 record and a Suburban South Conference Championship. Over four seasons, Webster Groves captured multiple conference titles and won the Missouri State Championship in Shell's freshman year.

In addition to basketball, Shell was active in marching band and baseball. He lettered in both, earned multiple Silver Slugger awards, and was a National Honor Society member. Academically, Shell graduated with a 4.02 GPA, scored a 29 on the ACT, and achieved a perfect score on the SAT reading section. He was also a recipient of the Prudential Service Award, a national honor recognizing youth community service.[1]

Collegiate Basketball Career

[edit]

Shell attended the University of Minnesota, where he played Division I basketball for the Minnesota Golden Gophers under coaches Tubby Smith and Richard Pitino. While primarily a reserve player, Shell gained recognition for his leadership, energy, and role in cultivating team culture. According to The Minnesota Daily, coach Pitino noted that Shell arrived “out of shape” and later lost 25–30 pounds during offseason training.[2]

Shell appeared in the NCAA Tournament, where Minnesota defeated a higher-seeded UCLA team. He was also a member of the Gophers squad that won the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) Championship in 2014 at Madison Square Garden.
