Jeff Capri is an American stand-up comedian, writer, and actor, known for his appearances on Comics Unleashed, Last Comic Standing, and the syndicated revival Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star, where he was a winner. Capri is also recognized for his Dry Bar Comedy special Capricious and for performing internationally on USO and military comedy tours. He is the son of comedy legend * Dick Capri and dancer Barbara Charles, a former June Taylor Dancer on The Jackie Gleason Show and a Broadway performer who danced alongside Sammy Davis Jr. in Golden Boy
Early life and background
[edit]Jeff Capri was born in New York but was raised almost entirely in Newport Beach, California. He comes from a family deeply rooted in the performing arts. His [1] father, Dick Capri, was a celebrated stand-up comedian and Catskills performer who later starred in the Broadway production Catskills on Broadway. His mother, Barbara Charles, was a professional dancer and a member of the renowned June Taylor Dancers, regularly featured on The Jackie Gleason Show. She also performed on Broadway, most notably dancing with Sammy Davis Jr. in the musical Golden Boy.
Capri began performing stand-up comedy in 1985 at the Laff Stop in Newport Beach, a legendary club known for launching new talent. As an open mic regular, he would often wait hours in line for a chance at one of just ten nightly slots. He shared that wait time with fellow up-and-comers David Spade and Larry Wilmore (amongst many others) both of whom were also just starting their comedy careers.
Career
[edit]Capri’s television debut came on Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star, where he won in the stand-up category.[1] He later appeared on Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen" and was a contestant on NBC’s Last Comic Standing.[1]
In 2020, he released his "Dry Bar" Comedy special Capricious, which highlighted his trademark blend of sharp wit and laid-back delivery.[2] The special received positive attention for its clever writing and clean material, suitable for a wide audience.

Capri has had an extensive career performing for U.S. military personnel overseas. In addition to touring with the United Service Organizations (USO), he has headlined military shows for Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs around the world.[3] Notably, Capri was one of the first four comedians to perform for U.S. troops in Iraq in 2003, 2005 and 2008 shortly after the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He is also featured in the 2017 comedy documentary I Am Battle Comic, which explores the lives and work of comedians who entertain U.S. service members in active and combat zones.[4]
Style and reception
[edit]Capri’s comedy is often described as observational, accessible, and largely free of profanity — unless the context truly calls for it. His material addresses current events, cultural quirks, and human behavior with a sharp but relatable edge. Known for his quick pacing and political neutrality, Capri’s sets appeal to a wide range of audiences across the U.S. and abroad.
Personal life
[edit]Jeff Capri is based in Southern California. He continues to tour nationally and internationally. He is married to Amanda Capri.[citation needed]
