James Sinclair is a British-American startup consultant and author. He is best known for his 2025 book, Starting a StartUp: Build Something People Want, which outlines a tactical framework for early-stage founders navigating the idea-to-execution phase. He has been recognized for his influence on startup execution strategy through widely circulated frameworks and a newsletter followed by over 140,000 founders. Sinclair is the creator of the "Earn the Right" framework and founder of StartUp To ScaleUp, a consultancy focused on pre-seed to Series A founders.

Sinclair is a 3x exited founder who has worked with hundreds of venture-backed companies, accelerators, and enterprise innovation teams. He was also the founding editor of the Wall Street Journal's StartUp Series,[1] where he wrote about early-stage decision-making and founder behavior.

He previously co-founded Bleem! and EnterpriseAlumni, both of which have been recognized for innovation in their respective categories.

In 2014, Sinclair co-founded EnterpriseAlumni, a corporate engagement platform. The launch was covered by global media, noting its innovative enterprise focus.[2] In 2015, his work with SAP and SuccessFactors integrations was further referenced in enterprise tech coverage.[3]

He later founded StartUp To ScaleUp, where he provides coaching, startup frameworks, and a widely read founder newsletter with over 140,000 subscribers.
