Girish Badole, also known as, Girish Dilip Badole, is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Bidar District in Karnataka, India.[1] He secured All India Rank 20 in the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination 2017, ranking first among candidates from Maharashtra.[2][3]

Early life and education

Badole was born on 10 June 1989 in Osmanabad, Maharashtra, to a farming family. His father, Dilip M. Badole, and mother, Shobha D. Badole, are both involved in agriculture. He completed his schooling at Sainik School, Tuljapur, and later pursued higher secondary education at Dayanand College, Latur. Badole obtained a medical degree (MBBS) from Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital, Mumbai, affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, graduating in 2013.

Following his medical graduation, Badole worked part-time at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) to financially support his UPSC preparation. He secured All India Rank 20 in the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination 2017, ranking first among Maharashtra candidates.[4][5]

Administrative Service

As an IAS officer, Badole has served in various administrative positions across Karnataka. He previously worked as Sub-Divisional Officer in Kollegala, Chamarajanagar district, and was later transferred to serve as Chief Executive Officer of Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat.[6] During his tenure as CEO of Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat, he implemented significant digital reforms and modernization initiatives, bringing technological advancement to the panchayat administration.[7][8]

In 2023, he was transferred from the position of CEO of Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat to Controller of Examinations at the Karnataka Public Service Commission, Bengaluru, as part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle that affected 14 IAS officers in the state. The transfer order, issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), stated: "Dr. Girish Dilip Badole. IAS (KN:2018), Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayath, Kalaburagi District is transferred with immediate effect and posted until further orders Controller of Examination. Karnataka Public Service Commission, Bengaluru.[9][10]

He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Bidar District in Karnataka.[11]

Notable Initiatives and Administrative Reforms

As CEO of Bidar District, Badole has implemented large-scale welfare initiatives with significant measurable impact. He led the AwaasPlus 2024 housing scheme, which secured approval for over 40,000 houses to make Bidar slum-free. Additionally, 758 houses were approved under the Basava Housing Scheme and 1,000 houses under the Dr BR Ambedkar Housing Scheme during his tenure, collectively benefiting over 41,000 families.[12]

Badole instituted a district-wide mental health program, mandating weekly psychiatric consultations for children in residential institutions to enhance their psychological well-being and prevent tragic incidents. Under his administration, he ordered the suspension of a Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) for harassing Gram Panchayat staff, which tragically led to the death of an employee, demonstrating his commitment to maintaining administrative integrity and protecting government employees from harassment.[13]

Badole has also implemented comprehensive insurance coverage for NREGA workers across the district, ensuring financial security for laborers during emergency situations, and strengthened the social audit process for the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA scheme to ensure accountability and transparency in rural employment programs.

Personal life and philosophy

Badole has expressed his commitment to public service, stating his motivation for joining the civil services stems from his desire to serve the nation and contribute to the development of society, particularly given his rural background.[14] Reflecting on his motivation, he stated: "Seeing the struggle of my family and others in rural areas prompted me to be something in life."[15]

He has expressed his belief in public service, noting: "Being an IAS officer, I will be able to give service to a larger part of the society by being a district magistrate, or a secretary."[16]
