- Gido Amagakure is a Japanese manga artist best known for their heartwarming and family-oriented works. Amagakure gained widespread recognition with the manga series Sweetness and Lightning (Amaama to Inazuma), which was serialized in Good! Afternoon magazine from February 2013 to August 2018. The series, combining themes of food, parenting, and friendship, became a hit for its unique focus on the bond between a single father, his young daughter, and their shared love of cooking. It was later adapted into a well-received anime in 2016, further boosting Amagakure's popularity.
Amagakure’s art style is characterized by clean lines and expressive characters, capturing both humor and heartfelt emotions. Their storytelling often emphasizes themes of family, community, and the simple joys of life. Before Sweetness and Lightning, Amagakure published various short works and one-shots, which helped refine their distinctive voice and ability to connect with readers emotionally.
After completing Sweetness and Lightning, Amagakure began working on other projects, including a new serialized manga titled A Galaxy Next Door (Otonari ni Ginga), which debuted in 2020 in Good! Afternoon. This series blends slice-of-life and romance with a touch of fantasy, showcasing Amagakure’s versatility as a creator. It was also adapted into an anime in 2023, demonstrating the continuing appeal of their work.
Amagakure is known for their reclusive nature, rarely making public appearances or sharing personal details. However, their manga consistently resonates with audiences for its ability to portray genuine human connections and everyday struggles with warmth and optimism.
