Audrius Dubietis (born May 2, 1964 in Vilnius) - Lithuanian physicist. Dubietis is Doctor of physical sciences, Distinguished Professor of Vilnius University and member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.

Audrius Dubietis is a Lithuanian Scientist working in the field of quantum electronics and lasers. He is a member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Together with G. Jonušauskas and A. Piskarskas, he proposed the method of parametric amplification of phase-modulated light pulses in 1992.[1]. Following this proposal, optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) systems were developed from the early 1990s by Light Conversion, a Lithuanian company in the field of laser systems. OPCPA systems are now commercialized by different suppliers, making the technology accessible to a wide range of researchers and industries [2]. The OPCPA technology is now implemented worldwide by high-power laser centers such as the Apollon laser facility [3] or the Extreme Light Infrastructure.

Career

Dubietis graduated from Vilnius University in 1989. He defended his thesis "Nonlinear compression of powerful picosecond pulses in three-wave interaction" and obtained the PhD degree from Vilnius University in 1996 [2]. Dubietis started his career as Researcher of the Quantum Electronics Department of the Laser Research Center of Vilnius University. Since 2006, Dubietis is Professor and was awarded the status of Distinguished Professor of Vilnius University in 2018 [4].

Currently, he heads the Ultrafast Nonlinear Optics Research Group of the Laser Research Center of the Physics Faculty of Vilnius University [5].

Scientific activity

Professor Audrius Dubietis's research ranges from nonlinear optics and laser physics to atmospheric optics and astronomy. Besides optical parametric chirped pulse amplification, Dubietis's contributions cover experimental and theoretical invstigations of ultrashort laser pulse filamentation, nonlinear conical waves, and pulsed Bessel beams. Dubietis received twice the Lithuanian Science Prize for his works on the spontaneous generation of localized light structures and nonlinear X-waves through intense light pulse self-action[6] and on four-wave parametric interactions in isotropic media[7].

Professor Dubietis authored and co-authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications in peer-reviewed international journals [8], in the fields of nonlinear optics and laser-matter interactions. He also shared his expertise on atmospheric optics, particularly noctilucent clouds, through popular science articles [9].

  • 2019 – Lithuanian Science Prize for the series of works "Interaction of intense laser radiation with matter: from fundamental research to new technologies (2004-2018)", together with Mika Vengrius and Mangirdas Malinauskas[11]
