The 2025–26 Ligue 1, also known as Ligue 1 McDonald’s for sponsorship reasons, will be the 88th season of the Ligue 1, France's premier football competition.[1] It is set to begin on 15 August 2025 and is set to conclude on 16 May 2026. The match schedule was announced on 27 June 2025.[2]
Teams
[edit]A total of eighteen teams will participate in the 2025–26 edition of the Ligue 1. Lorient (who returned to the top flight after one year's absence), Paris FC (who return to the top flight after forty-six year's absence) and Metz (who returned to the top flight after one year's absence) were promoted after finishing first, second and third in the 2024–25 Ligue 2, respectively. They replaced Montpellier (relegated after sixteen years in the top flight), Saint-Etienne (relegated after one year in the top flight) and Reims (relegated after seven years in the top flight).
