Is Westlake, Seattle the primary topic for "Westlake, Seattle"?

This stems from a discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2025 July 8#Westlake, Washington, which may be of interest to folks.

I took a look at the DAB page Westlake and got to editing the Washington (mostly Seattle) entries at Westlake#United States. This got me wondering if Westlake, Seattle is the true primary topic for "Westlake, Seattle" or whether one is more likely to think of shopping center and surrounding area downtown. As a Washingtonian who lives outside Seattle, I tend to think downtown unless context clues suggest otherwise. Thoughts? --MYCETEAE 🍄‍🟫—talk 21:31, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

See: Pageviews where Westlake station (Sound Transit) is the most popular page with ≈45% of views, followed by Westlake Center (33.5%), Westlake, Seattle (12%), then Westlake Park (9%) (percentages are rounded and total to 99.5). Collectively, the downtown Westlakes have about a 7:1 pageviews advantage over Westlake, Seattle. @Myceteae: Normally I would put the most weight on pageviews. You set the pageviews / massviews graph nicely, so good job. For main topics, typically there is one topic which is more of an outlier with more traffic than the others put together. In this case, all the topics are close in traffic and all low traffic, with 200-900 views a month so pageviews does not clearly define a main subject.

Westlake, Seattle is what Seattle people usually mean when they have a conversation about Westlake. When Seattle people only say the name "Westlake" they probably mean Westlake station (Sound Transit), because it is a transit location. Most people do not actually do anything there but transit.

Among all the articles, if you have a need for a main subject, then choose the station just because it is a nice article better developed than the others. The traffic is not much more, but it is the most, so it is a fair choice for mainsubject. Among traffic, article development, and familiarity, it is a suitable choice. @Bluerasberry Thank you for the thoughtful response! I had mainly been debating between leaving things as they are or making Westlake, Seattle a DAB page and moving the neighborhood to Westlake, Seattle (neighborhood). I would take that to a formal RM discussion but wanted to seek more input first (WP:RFCBEFORE). @Myceteae: There are 4 topics, all notable, which are accurately and commonly called "Westlake, Seattle", and two more topics which I think I would call as parks near the Westlake Center, which are both named Westlake themselves. I do not think you need a formal RM discussion. If you feel like making a DB page "Westlake, Seattle", then it makes sense. Bluerasberry (talk) 17:57, 9 July 2025 (UTC)

The precedent for neighborhood and geographic articles is to not disambiguate in this manner. In my view, the neighborhood article should stay as is and simply host a hatnote pointing to the Westlake disambiguation page's section on Seattle entries. SounderBruce 19:41, 9 July 2025 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you mean neighborhoods usually are not disambiguated at all or usually follow a different format. The vast majority of neighborhoods on WP probably do not require parenthetical disambiguation but there's a good case that this one does. I looked for other US neighborhoods and was surprised to see that the most common format is the rather unusual "Neighborhood (neighborhood), city" (i.e., West Lake (neighborhood), Seattle) but there is is a lack of consistency. See below. Westlake (neighborhood) would be in competition with Westlake, Los Angeles which has many more pageviews, and possibly other Westlakes on the list that would need to be checked to see if they are neighborhoods.

I support a DAB for Westlake, Seattle and move to Westlake, Seattle (neighborhood) or similar for the article. Westlake Avenue, Westlake Center, Westlake Station, and the other related "Westlake" areas downtown seem more notable than the neighborhood west of Lake Union.
