Newspapers.com
[edit]Hi all, and thank you so much for your work on the amazing Wikipedia Library. In the new era of newspapers.com, after the original login account system, I was re-approved for newspapers.com but when I surf to WP:LIBRARY and click through, it launches newspapers.com and I'm logged in via my account I made when Wikipedia Library started, but I have no access. I see the button for "try 7 days free" while I'm logged in there, and nothing really works. BTW, I don't see how to request access to a new site.
- Can you fix my newspapers.com account?
- How do I request access to newspaperarchive.com?
- Is my newspapers.com username-and-password account obsolete or is it required in addition to authentication by surfing through WP:LIBRARY?
— Smuckola(talk) 02:47, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- See this announcement - the account is required. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:55, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Nikkimaria: Okay so what about any of the rest of my post, like where I said it just doesn't work? And....the rest? In my Wikipedia Library collection, Newspapers.com says "Expiry date: Feb 02, 2026" and newspaperarchive has the "access collection" button so I guess it expired but it used to work. I'm logged into my original newspapers.com account that you set up for me in the earliest days, it has my username in the top right of the page, and yet nothing works, I can't access any content, and it has the "try 7 days free" button. I tried a "private window" in Firefox too, also browsing directly to newspapers.com, with the same result. — Smuckola(talk) 08:33, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- If the Newspapers.com account hasn't expired yet, it should still work, but it's managed by Newspapers.com - you'd need to get in touch with their support if your account is not working. Newspaperarchive is a separate thing and should work by clicking on the 'access collection' button under Newspaperarchive. Nikkimaria (talk) 23:56, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Nikkimaria: OK I will contact newspapers.com.
- Yeah I agree that newspaperarchive should work! :) So what now? Thanks! — Smuckola(talk) 01:20, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

- What do you see when you click on 'access collection' here and try to read an article? Nikkimaria (talk) 01:22, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- Great Pendergast's ghost! It works. It works by the URL you gave and by browsing from scratch via WP:LIBRARY. I see "Welcome to NewspaperArchive Provided for you by Wikimedia Foundation" and I see pictures of dead trees from 1897! OK now I'm not sure why I was failing to get any search results the last several times I tried! lol, thanks. And the system-wide search is great, with EBSCO results and all.
- I await a response from newspapers.com! Thank you to everyone for everything. — Smuckola(talk) 02:19, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Nikkimaria: Hooray, they set me at "Complimentary Publisher Extra® Annual" status and the account works now. Thanks. — Smuckola(talk) 01:40, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

SAGE and The BMJ can't be accessed anymore
[edit]It seems that SAGE Journals dan the BMJ are no longer available for all The Wikipedia Library users Antya Anantari (talk) 04:24, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Antya Anantari: BMJ still works fine for me. See phab:T391570 for SAGE journals. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 17:27, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
- My bad, The BMJ is working fine now after I change my browser Antya Anantari (talk) 01:24, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Sage has resolved the issue, we should be able to access their collections now. Please let me know if you're still facing any issues. VSj (WMF) (talk) 14:17, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
De Gruyter
[edit]I understand there's an access problem with this source, is there anything I can do to help? It's the database I use most often. (t · c) buidhe 05:48, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
- It would be absolutely great if access to De Gruyter could be restored following its merger with Brill. In practice, losing De Gruyter means losing access to a third of the papers/books I use TWL for. —Kusma (talk) 13:24, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- Should be fixed now. This was tracked at phab:T372402 ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:00, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yep seems to be fixed. Thank you! fyi Kusma (t · c) buidhe 09:48, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

I thought I made it available
[edit]I made two clippings https://www.newspapers.com/article/winston-salem-journal/172501366/ https://www.newspapers.com/article/winston-salem-journal/172501288/ from newspapers.com and tried to access them while signed out. It didn't work. But I checked the boxes saying they should be accessible to anyone.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:36, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Vchimpanzee: Works for me, even when signed out. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 19:11, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Not sure what I did wrong, but I am blocked and told to sign in.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:04, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- Wait, the URLs are different. Here are the ones that I can't access.https://www.newspapers.com/image/1189390097/?clipping_id=172501288 https://www.newspapers.com/image/1189390103/?clipping_id=172501366 — Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:06, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Vchimpanzee I believe those second links are what you get to if you click 'into' a clipping, which requests the entire newspaper, while highlighting your clipping, which would require a subscription. The links you shared in your first message are the actual clippings. Sam Walton (talk) 12:06, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

Emerald
[edit]Hello. I attempted to access this report available at Emerald to potentially try and expand Singapore Airlines Flight 21A. However, it appears that I either need to access the paper through an institution or purchase the journal. Aren't all journals at Emerald supposed to be free to access if using The Wikipedia Library? Aviationwikiflight (talk) 12:29, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for reporting this. I have reached out to Emerald so they can look into this issue. VSj (WMF) (talk) 11:14, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
How to bypass paywalls
[edit]I hope this is the right place to post this.

- @HarleyRandomBoy Not really. That web link requires me to log in, so is itself effectively paywalled! Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:30, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
- Sounds like the Tivo Community's trying to drum up business :) —Fortuna, imperatrix 10:34, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Newspapers.com searching not working?
[edit]I was literally using Newspapers.com an hour ago, but now any search on it is returning saying no results. I have no filters on or anything, so I'm not sure what's going on. SilverserenC 21:37, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- I was gonna say that it works fine for me, but after further testing I can confirm that it's broken, somewhat. Some searches work, some don't. Other people reported it too ([1], [2]), so it must be a problem with the website itself. Try tweaking your keywords in meanwhile. AstonishingTunesAdmirer ➜ 23:35, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Looks like it's an off and on again issue for people, which isn't very comforting. Means they haven't narrowed down the problem itself. Any insights on what sort of keyword tweaking has been working for you, AstonishingTunesAdmirer? SilverserenC 23:47, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- I tried searching a phrase in quotation marks and it showed 0 results. Then I added a word and it worked. Then I removed the word along with the quotation marks and it also worked. If you have a specific example that doesn't work for you, I can give it a try. AstonishingTunesAdmirer ➜ 23:52, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Things are working again for the moment. I just was wondering on my options if it happened again at some point. If it does, I'll try messing around with quote marks and such. Thanks for the tip! SilverserenC 23:57, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
