[edit]I think this draft is ready - should we get more input anywhere else first? Superb Owl (talk) 21:57, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Reference not FARA here and at WP:Academic freedom and Wikipedia
[edit]This seems a bit US centric, it's not the only country that has such laws and that could be used to undermine the point of the essay. Are the sections really needed? It wouldn't seem that the point of the essay would be lessened without them. -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested «@» °∆t° 18:51, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- I removed the section from Academic freedom (not sure it is needed there) and will try to work on it here to make clearer and less ambiguous Superb Owl (talk) 20:53, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
- I think the changes are an improvement. It stops editors from making arguments based on similar laws of authoritarian regimes, when such regimes are using such laws in bad faith. -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested «@» °∆t° 12:11, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- 100% agree - would also support removing entirely or moving to a section with other methods on identifying captured state media (democratic governments can also be pressured by authoritarian neighbors or states to refrain from labeling, so they aren't necessarily the most independent source on the topic either) Superb Owl (talk) 18:46, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
