Can somebody please add reliable sources? Bearian (talk) 22:32, 1 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if this list is notable per WP:LISTN, and I've tagged it as such. Most of the linked articles do not mention the individuals being leader writers. — Newslinger talk 17:55, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Petroleum News for deletion

[edit]
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Petroleum News is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Petroleum News until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Notice

The article Robert W. Loughery has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced and unimproved for over 15 years. There are some hits on Google books, but I can't see how they could be used to create a coherent article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. P.S. The creator left Wikipedia in 2006. Bearian (talk) 08:16, 12 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Tracking category

[edit]

Hello, is there a category for 'news event that happened less than 5 days ago' that is assigned to new articles when they are created? I would like to keep track of them and help with editing them, i.e. about what's current now, not pages about famous journalists or newspapers etc. Gryllida (talk, e-mail) 07:34, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gryllida, the closest thing that I'm aware of is the Category:Current events category, which is added to any article tagged with the the {{Current}} template. The subcategory for the relevant month, Category:Current events from June 2025, may be what you're looking for. — Newslinger talk 17:46, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help with journalist biography

[edit]

I've posted this on the article's talk page as well, but wanted to bring it to the attention of editors interested in journalism topics:

I am the subject of this article and acknowledge I have a conflict of interest. I did not request the article's creation, but when I discovered it contained factual errors and arbitrary information, I edited it without understanding Wikipedia's COI policies. I now realize this was inappropriate. Given the sourcing and notability concerns that have been flagged, I believe a basic stub format would be more appropriate than the current article structure. I would also be fine with deletion if that's what editors determine is most appropriate.

For editors' reference, here are some sources that have covered my work:

"The Future of Left Politics: An Interview with Meagan Day" by Joseph Winters, Harvard Politics Review, March 2, 2020 - https://harvardpolitics.com/the-future-of-left-politics-an-interview-with-meagan-day/ "The ABCs of Jacobin" by Robert P. Baird, Columbia Journalism Review, January 2, 2019 - https://www.cjr.org/special_report/the-abcs-of-jacobin-socialist-magazine.php

I request that uninvolved editors consider these sources and determine what, if anything, should be included in an appropriately formatted stub, or whether the article should be deleted. My current title at Jacobin is Senior Editor, not Staff Writer. Thank you.

The article is at Meagan Day and the talk page discussion is at Talk:Meagan Day.

Request for help with rejected draft article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Thalif_Deen

[edit]

Hello everyone! My draft article for the journalist Thalif Deen was rejected, with the reviewer leaving the following:

"This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia."

I suspect it's difficult in general to find sources for subjects like journalists, who have a large output and whose work is cited by different outlets and organizations, but who don't tend to be written about themselves despite their importance and contribution.

I think the subject of the article is noteworthy enough (at the very least, in Sri Lanka, and in the context of reporting on the United Nations) to have a Wikipedia page. And they certainly have a very large output in a number of different publications over a long span of time, all of which I (subjectively) think would warrant some mention on this site. I also think the UN Correspondent's Association prizes that I referenced in the article meet the requirements for someone sufficiently well-regarded by their peers, and provide evidence of "significant critical attention" to the subject's work.

Would anyone here disagree with that assessment, and consider the subject of my draft to be inherently un-noteworthy?

If not, what improvements or suggestions do you have for this draft that would make it more suitable for acceptance if I were to re-submit it? Does anyone have experience with similar articles that were rejected on similar grounds? Pistachio89 (talk) 15:46, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Pistachio89. I'll see if I can help you out with this. I do believe the subject of your article would pass the basic notability criteria based on the awards they have received, but the article leans heavy on primary sources and will likely need to be pared back a bit. Before we move forward, may I ask if you have a personal or professional relationship with Mr. Deen? If so, this is something that should be disclosed. Cheers, MediaKyle (talk) 18:04, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
