This semester students will make substantive contributions to an existing Wikipedia entry for a historical topic based on recent academic research. Students have a wide range of choice as far as topics, but they MUST select an entry related to a subject that we cover in the course (US history to 1877). Each student will start by selecting an academic journal article from the last decade (2015-2025) published from an approved list. They will then find the most appropriate existing Wikipedia entry under which to include the material from that article. Students will selected the main facts and quotations from that article, which they will use to develop a new section for the existing entry based. Student will then develop a second section for that same Wikipedia entry by finding another academic journal article that adds something to the discussion. They will repeat the process of compiling the best facts and quotes from the article to include in the entry. After spring break, the course will focus on writing and revising the new sections of the entry. Finally, students will locate images to add to the entry. The end result will be a revised Wikipedia entry that includes two new subsections based on research from two different academic journal articles.
