Addressing a broad selection of artistic forms and thematic issues, this course aims to critically assess the visual output of the Islamic world and its diaspora. We will study modern and contemporary artists from around the globe whose work addresses issues of iconoclasm, gender and sexuality, racialization, climate change, Anthropocene extinction, refugee crises, and the use of the image in revolution and war.
