The result of the discussion was redirect to Template:The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Izno (talk) 16:39, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Apart from a couple of links (which I have copied over) it is essentially a subset of Template:The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Given that the lives of the Trapp Family are so intertwined with their fictional depiction in The Sound of Music I struggle to see where this template would be relevant but the Trapp one would not be. We certainly don't need both on the same articles. Betty Logan (talk) 23:02, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst I was formulating this deletion request, the author of the template redirected it to Template:The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, so this discussion is somewhat redundant. I guess it can be formally closed and the redirect kept or the redirect itself can be deleted (nothing in main space links to it). I don't think it really matters which approach is taken, unless someone thinks there is a valid argument for keeping both templates. Betty Logan (talk) 23:14, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Betty Logan: I don't think it is a good idea to use both templates simultaneously. But maybe it is preferable to leave Template:The Sound of Music as a redirect. Cause all the other big musicals have templates named after them and this one doesn't. Therefore, the current template name ("Template:The Story of the Trapp Family Singers") is not intuitive. (And its header is neither intuitive. I would never have thought to look for links to "Sound of Music" productions and songs from the musical under the header "Trapp Family". And "Family" is capitalized as if that were a work title.) --Moscow Connection (talk) 01:11, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I believe "Trapp Family" is often taken to be the name of the group, as in "The Beatles" or "The Rolling Stones". I think there is a good argument for renaming the template (and I think it probably should be moved to "Trapp Family") but that's for a separate discussion. I am ok with the redirect personally, and would have not nominated it for deletion had I been aware that it had been redirected. The two tasks (redirection and nomination) were undertaken simultaneously. I would be fine with a technical close in favor of a redirect. Betty Logan (talk) 01:45, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

– Okay, I see now. --Moscow Connection (talk) 01:50, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't object to just deleting. But according to Help:Redirect, templates can be redirected to one another. It's not something that can't be done. --Moscow Connection (talk) 03:45, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe if "Template:The Sound of Music" exists, everyone will see that the topic is already "discussed" in the other template. --Moscow Connection (talk) 03:55, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
