- Perhaps because there are other important Portlands, and "Portland, Oregon" is a bit of a mouthful?

- I've met people from Texas who never refer to Austin Texas by its first name alone, even multiple times in a conversation. Perhaps they are not on intimate enough terms. —Tamfang (talk) 00:34, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
