Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates
Featured and good topics in Wikipedia ![]() ![]() A featured topic (FT) is a collection of inter-related articles in which at least half are featured articles or featured lists. The remaining articles must be at least good quality. A good topic (GT) is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles) with a less stringent quality threshold than a featured topic. This page is for the nomination of potential featured and good topics. See the featured and good topic criteria for criteria on both types of topic. Before nominating a topic, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at the Featured and good topics talk page. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FTC/GTC process. If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination. Nominators are expected to respond positively to constructive criticism and to make an effort to address objections promptly. The featured and good topics coordinators Aza24, MaranoFan and Kyle Peake determine the timing of the process for each nomination. For a nomination to be promoted to FT or GT status, consensus must be reached for a group to be promoted to featured or good topic status. If enough time passes without objections being resolved, nominations will be removed from the candidates topic and archived. To contact the FGTC coordinators, please leave a message on the FGTC talk page, or use the {{@FGTC}} notification template elsewhere. You may want to check previous archived nominations first: |

Nomination procedure[edit]To create a new nomination use the form below (e.g., Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Saffron/archive1) and click the "Create new nomination" button. Once the nomination page is created, remember to transclude it in the appropriate section below, to leave nomination templates on the talk pages of the articles nominated for the topic. For detailed instructions on how to nominate topics or add articles to existing topics, see Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Nomination procedure. Supporting and objecting[edit]Please review all the articles of the nominated topic with the featured and good topic criteria in mind before deciding to support or oppose a nomination.
For a topic to be promoted to featured or good topic status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. The FGTC coordinators are usually the ones to assess this consensus and close FGTC discussions. If there is a consensus to promote, the promote instructions are located here. If enough time passes without objections being resolved (at least one week), nominations will be removed from the candidates list and archived. Nominations will stay here for ten days if there is unanimous consent, or longer if warranted by debate. |

[edit]The Second Punic War between Rome and Carthage had been raging for 13 years when Publius Cornelius Scipio, Rome's most successful commander, was assigned to Sicily in 205 BC with the intention of invading the Carthaginian homeland in North Africa. Scipio's army landed the following year and won four pitched battles in three years, the last against the previously unbeaten Hannibal. Carthage was forced to agree a humiliating treaty in 201 BC and thereafter it was clear that Carthage was politically subordinate to Rome.
Another campaign article with the four battles and one siege for which it was notable as sub-articles, nominated to go straight in as a Featured Topic. Gog the Mild (talk) 11:49, 8 June 2025 (UTC)

- Support, while List of battles of the Second Punic War mentions a Battle of Castra Cornelia, I am not sure this is an obvious gap as it was a smaller naval skirmish. CMD (talk) 23:33, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi CMD and thanks. I thought that might be the major Carthaginian naval attempt to relieve Utica, but it's the seizing of a few storm damaged Roman merchant vessels. Definitely not a battle. Gog the Mild (talk) 08:51, 15 June 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: From what I've seen of these sorts of featured topics, they usually have a page in the vein of List of songs recorded by Lecrae; see, for example, Overview of Lorde or Overview of Ben&Ben. I'm not fully familiar with topics, however, so I'm not sure if this is a severe enough omission to justify opposing this nomination. Leafy46 (talk) 20:12, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
The Scottish invasion of England started near Carlisle on 8 July 1648. The First English Civil War between Royalist supporters of Charles I and an alliance of Parliamentarian and Scottish forces had ended in 1646 with Charles defeated and imprisoned. The Second English Civil War took place in 1648, beginning with a series of mutinies and Royalist uprisings in England and Wales. The Scots raised an army under the command of James Hamilton, Duke of Hamilton, which marched south to support Charles and the uprisings. It combined with English Royalists and continued along the west coast road some 24,000 strong. Oliver Cromwell concentrated 9,000 Parliamentarians in north Yorkshire and fell on the flank of the much larger Royalist army on 17 August. The Royalists proved no match for the well-trained veterans of the New Model Army and at the battle of Preston Hamilton's army was broken and the survivors, nearly all Scottish, driven south. Two days later, hungry, cold, soaking wet, exhausted and short of dry powder they turned to fight at the battle of Winwick. They were beaten again and all of the surviving Scots surrendered: their infantry the same day, their cavalry on 24 August at Uttoxeter. Winwick was the final battle of the war. In its aftermath Charles was beheaded on 30 January 1649 and England became a republic on 19 May.

I think this is a straight forward nomination for FT. It has not previously been a GT. A GA on a military campaign and two FAs on the two main military clashes it led to; which in this case ensured the invaders' complete defeat. Similar to my previous FTs Wikipedia:Featured topics/Gascon campaign of 1345 and Wikipedia:Featured topics/Crécy campaign. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:52, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

The Fierce Five was the artistic gymnastics team that won the second team gold medal for the United States in the women's team competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Originally referred to as the Fab Five, the five members of the team were Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross, and Jordyn Wieber. Later in the Olympic Games, Douglas won a gold medal in the individual all-around event, becoming the first African-American ever to do so; Maroney won silver on the vault; Raisman, the team captain, won bronze on the balance beam and gold on the floor exercise.

The emperors of the Ming dynasty ruled over China proper from 1368 to 1644 during the late imperial era of China (960–1912). Members of the Ming dynasty continued to rule a series of rump states in southern China, commonly known as the Southern Ming, until 1662; the Ming dynasty succeeded the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty and preceded the Manchu-led Qing dynasty. The Ming dynasty was founded by the peasant rebel leader Zhu Yuanzhang, known as the Hongwu Emperor. All Ming emperors were of the House of Zhu. The longest-reigning emperor of the dynasty was the Wanli Emperor (r. 1572–1620), who ruled for 48 years; the shortest was his successor, the Taichang Emperor, who ruled for only 29 days in 1620.

- Oppose - It would be best to wait for those remaining 6 articles to recieve GA status before a good topic is proposed. Per 1d of the requirments, every article in the set (in this case, every Emperor notable enough to warrent an article) should have been awarded either GA or FA. GGOTCC 06:38, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
