Aurora concert chronology |
The What Happened to the Earth? is the ongoing fifth concert tour by Norwegian singer and songwriter Aurora, in support of her fifth studio album What Happened to the Heart? (2024). The tour commenced on 26 June 2024 in Dublin, Ireland, and will conclude on 31 August 2025 in Seattle, Washington, United States, spanning over 80 shows through Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia and Australia.
Background
[edit]
The first European leg of the tour was announced alongside the album on 28 March 2024;[3] general sale for the leg started on 5 April; people who pre-ordered the album received an exclusive ticket pre-sale link for two days in advance.[4][5] Dates for North America were revealed on Aurora's social media accounts and official website on 14 May,[6] and the Latin American dates were announced 2 weeks later on 27 May,[7][8] marking the first time Aurora had booked an entire tour leg in arenas.
Australian and Japanese dates were announced on 13 and 21 August, respectively.[9][10] Dates for Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Seoul and Hong Kong were announced on 22 October,[11] followed by China dates on 16 December;[12] general tickets for the latest went on sale on 20 December.[13]
The last leg announced of the tour featuring arena concerts passed through Europe in 2025;[14] general tickets went on sale on 12 June 2024.[15] On 23 June, Aurora was announced as the headliner of Piknik i Parken and Bergenfest, in Norway.[16][17]
Prior to starting her headlining tour, Aurora made several festival appearances in Europe and Asia to promote her album What Happened to the Heart?. She appeared at Glastonbury in the United Kingdom, where her set was widely praised by critics.[18][19][20] The following week, she performed at the Roskilde in Denmark.[21] She also headlined Ravnedalen Live in Norway.[22] Aurora made other appearances including at Sziget in Hungary,[23] Paléo in Switzerland,[24] NOS Alive in Portugal,[25] and Summer Sonic in Japan and Thailand.[26]
Critical reception
[edit]The tour was received with rave reviews from critics. Taryn Crowley of The Upcoming pointed Aurora's ability with her audience at the Royal Albert Hall, saying that "the most awe-inspiring aspect of this gig was her ability to get a crowd out of their seats, even when that behaviour is deemed inappropriate for the venue; she never encouraged them to do so, she simply just performed as herself and the audience followed" and that "the Royal Albert Hall saw a crowd like no other".[27] Writing for Louder Than War, MK Bennett praised Aurora's humor and charisma on stage, stating that "she is a very funny person, her onstage chatter, part nervous tension, part need to explain oneself, is so natural that even as the minutes roll by, everyone listens, knowing there is a punchline coming".[28] Maddie Browning of Boston.com described the tour as "mysterious and breathtaking like Aksnes' music".[29]
Commercial performance
[edit]
Set to attract around 275,000 people from 58 solo shows,[1][2] the tour marked Aurora's transition from theater shows to large venues. After its initial announcement, tickets for Paris were sold out in 10 minutes.[30] Due to demand in New York and Brisbane, Aurora added extra dates at the Beacon Theatre and the Fortitude Music Hall.[31][32]
During the Latin American leg of the tour, Aurora performed the biggest headline show of her career with a sold-out attendance of 18,000 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City.[33][34] According to her tour manager Nicolas Izzo, there were nearly 40,000 attendees at the 3 shows held in Mexico.[35] On November, it was revealed that over 60,000 people attended the first European leg of the tour.[36] Bergens Tidende also stated that Aurora is currently attracting a large international audience to the Bergenfest.[37]
On 11 February 2025, Aurora broke the record for the biggest single-day attendance for an entertainment event at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne with a sold-out attendance of 7,062.[38][39]
