Wangi Joda

Wangi Joda (born Joice Wangi Pelupessy; died 28 or 29 June 2013) was an Indonesian model, actress, and singer. She is best known for being the “Queen of rock and roll” in the end of the 1950s and for her leading role as Makita in Hadiah 2,000,000 (1962). In her later years, Pelupessy is known for being the mother of actors Thomas and Sultan Djorghi.

Career

Joda started her career as a singer under her birth name Joice Pelupessy in the end of the 1950s.[1] She became a "Queen of Indonesian Rock and Roll" in the same time and was crowned at Transarea Hotel in Bandung.[1] Joda later starred in her only film role in a leading role in Hadiah 2,000,000 (1962) as Makita.[2]

Joda had three sons, Marcello (born 1968), an actor, Thomas (born 1969), a singer, and Sultan Djorghi (born 1976), an actor.[3][4]

Death

Joda died at Pondok Indah Hospital in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on 28 or 29 June 2013 at 00:45 AM after being hospitalized for three weeks due to suffering from lung and heart disease.[3][4] She was buried on 1 July.[3][4]
