Vitta Vladimirovna Novozhilova (Russian: Витта Владимировна Новожилова; born February 11, 1947, Alexandrovsk-Sakhalinsky, Sakhalin Oblast) is a Soviet and Russian swimming coach specializing in breaststroke. From 1992 to 1996 and from 2016 to the present, she has worked with the Russian national teams. Master of Sports of the USSR. Honored Coach of Russia.[1]

Biography

Vitta Novozhilova was born into a family of a doctor and a military lawyer in Alexandrovsk-Sakhalinsky, Sakhalin Oblast. She began her athletic career as a swimmer, specializing in breaststroke. After ending her competitive career, she entered and graduated from the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health (formerly the Lesgaft Institute of Physical Culture), which became the foundation for her subsequent coaching career.

Since 1969, she has worked as a coach, beginning her career at the "Ekran" swimming pool under Igor Koshkin. From 1992 to 1996 and from 2016 to the present, she has been part of the coaching staff of the Russian national swimming teams. Her primary place of work is the Sports School for Water Sports "Ekran" in Saint Petersburg.[2]

Vitta Novozhilova is herself a Master of Sports of the USSR and has been engaged in coaching for more than 50 years. During this time, she has trained 12 Masters of Sport of International Class and more than 50 Masters of Sport. She is the mentor of world record holder, world championship silver medalist, European champion, and multiple-time Russian champion Evgeniia Chikunova.[3]
