Writing an autobiography
[edit] Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article, or a draft for a Wikipedia article, about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Notable people who have edited Wikipedia). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. Thank you. - Hi Velella, I appreciate your feedback. I am actually creating this page for my employer, and writing it based on information she has provided to me. Please let me know if I have done anything wrong. I am brand new to creating this page and appreciate any insight and advice. Thank you! Tiffany Johnson-Wilson (talk) 04:29, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- My name is Megan, and that is the email this is registered under if that is helpful. I definitely do not want to do anything against wikipedia standards. Tiffany Johnson-Wilson (talk) 04:30, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Megan. The place to start is conflict of interest policies. You have a conflict of interest which must be declared on your user page and which sets a whole number of controls on what you can and cannot do on Wikipedia. The second thing to read is WP:BOSS which starts with the words "Tell your boss it can't be done...." which is excellent advice. Finally, starting on Wikipedia by creating an article is undoubtedly the most difficult thing you could try to do here. For most editors, it takes an extended period of undersatding the system, its arcane rules and policies, its uncountable policies , procedures, informal norms, concepts not to dwell too much on consensus building. Please, just tell your boss it can't be done. It will save all of us a great deal of grief and heart searching. There are other internships available. Velella Velella Talk 04:41, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your help! She wants to have the page and continue creating pages for her additional companies. I will continue to read the guidelines, and make sure I am following them. So, it seems the page was deleted because of a conflict of interest, and I also need to provide at least 3 independent articles to prove notability? I know our Press Releases do not count. I will continue to work on this. Thank you! Tiffany Johnson-Wilson (talk) 19:44, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- I am not at all sure that the message has got through. Wikipedia articles are not created because a CEO wants them created, they are created because univolved and disinterested editors belive that companies are notable as define by Wikipedia. Once article are created, they may be edited by annyone, provided that their contribution is consistent with Wikipedia rules and polices. Just for an example I did a search on Johnson & Wilson Real Estate Company and found nothing notable, but I did find several reviews that might make uncomfotable reading for the owner of the business. There is probably nothing that you can do here as you have an over-bearing conflict of interest which is still not declared on your user page. Please stop, this may not end well. - Your message did get through. I did take your feedback and added a conflict-of-interest disclaimer to the page. I am still learning and doing my best. Thank you. Tiffany Johnson-Wilson (talk) 17:02, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
- You said that you don't want to do anything wrong. But you are doing something wrong. We don't write articles based on information given us by employers. We write them based on independent sources. The user page you created blatantly ignores our neutral point of view policy. If you continue to create promotional content, you will be blocked from editing. Immediately. - I am genuinely confused on how to write a page to share about Tiffany Johnson-Wilson, as I have shared articles showing that she has won these awards. These were independent sources from the media, as well as sharing the independent source that she is on city council. How is this not neutral? I am really trying to understand and comply. - I remain unconvinced that this person is notable, but the only way to test that is firtsly for you to add the required conflict of interest notice to your user page. For Wikipedia purposes you are a paid editor and you should complete this declaration as a paid editor whether you receive monetary reward or not. Then follow the new article creation process. This will produce a Draft article which can be submitted for review. Please do not move it to mainspace and do not put any content on your userpage or on your user talkpage. The content in this Draft should be exclusively in your own words, and contain no text copied from elsewhere. It should also contain no peacock phrasing or language (omit most adjectives and adverbs). Most importantly, all the key facts must be sourced to reliable and independent sources. This specifically excludes CVs on Council web-sites, any material written by the subject or her companies, any press releases or regurgitation of press releases etc. The review of any Draft that you produce will establish whether or not this person is notable. Speedy deletion nomination of User:Tiffany Johnson-Wilson/sandbox
[edit]
A tag has been placed on your user page, User:Tiffany Johnson-Wilson/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Advice
[edit]Hi. I have deleted your draft because the only place you are allowed to write about yourself is your own user page. Note that you are NOT allowed to link to your Youtube channel, blog, Instagram account or any other such content or to promote your skills, services, publications, recordings, etc. Please do not post your CV anywhere on Wikipedia. It would just make you look silly. Deb (talk) 15:42, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

[edit] Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your user page may not meet Wikipedia's user page guidelines. It is intended for basic information about yourself, your interests and goals as they relate to editing Wikipedia, as well as disclosures of conflicts of interest and paid editing. Although a lot of freedom is allowed in personalizing your user page, it is not:
- an encyclopedia article (and should not be styled to look like one)
- a workspace for a draft article
- a personal website, blog, or social media site
- a space for self-promotion or other advertising
- a CV, resumé or lengthy autobiography
The user page guidelines have additional information on what is and what is not considered acceptable content. Please use your user sandbox or the draft article space to practice editing or to create new articles. Thank you. jlwoodwa (talk) 17:34, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
