Rather very frustrated at this whole saga, but there we go… There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is User:Pmbma - complete refusal to use anything other than bare URL references. Danners430 (talk) 19:40, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Danners430: Rather unfortunate that he walked away from Wikipedia. But seeing his former userpage, he was already fed up with critical looks at the quality of sources. It seemed to have been a race to the bottom of what is just acceptable as a source. By no means I blame you for his departure, he just snapped. The Banner talk 09:16, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah it’s a shame to lose him, but it is what it is… I’ve been trying to offer help and point him in directions for ages but he just seemed to stop accepting any sort of advice and took it as a personal slight instead Danners430 (talk) 19:06, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
Edits on Veer Savarkar Airport Wikipedia page
Hello,
Can I please know why my edits were reverted? I first did edits and someone else reverted them. I followed up on their advice but this time you reverted. Can you please explain what went wrong? Thank you! Ya-Lun, Shi (talk) 20:24, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- Please read the edit summery, there are still copyright issues. And even while the official name now, but Port Blair is still the WP:COMMONNAME. The Banner talk 20:34, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, can I know what are the specific references where the copyright issues stem from? Also, from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands it's a welcomed move to refer to our city after the official name rather than "Port Blair". Given this was a recent move, it will take some time for outsiders to switch (like from Ceylon to Sri Lanka or Burma to Myanmar). I hope you understand "Port Blair" is a legacy of the brutal colonial rule and for long was the narrative used even after independence. But finally we are standing up for our identity. Wikipedia is read by many many people and I think it is important we emphasise this; this is not only my opinion. However, as you are senior I leave you to make the decision (but please consider my request; slowly we're changing signs within Andaman and Nicobar Islands to rewrite Sri Vijaya Puram over Port Blair. Thank you! Ya-Lun, Shi (talk) 20:44, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- It sounds that you are not neutral in this. But Wikipedia is a neutral encyclopedia, based on reliable, independent sources. We are not here to Wikipedia:RIGHTGREATWRONGS but to state facts, based on said sources. The Banner talk 21:27, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- I guess there is no neutral standpoint; either it's me supporting the Indian government's pov or supporting the colonia-era pov. What's neutral to me is what the people of Sri Vijaya Puram want to express themselves to outside world while it's sad to see the Wikipedia team preferring to continue on what is neutral to them: supporting the British/colonial standpoint. But like I told you I won't challenge this further. The main goal was to expand on the History and Airlines and Destinations to simply provide more detailed information; nothing is biased here. I will use the name Port Blair. Can you please look into this (to make sure it isn't a problem on my side) as clearly something seems to be wrong with Wikipedia's copyright checking software. I followed your comment and looked up on the software to find an over 70% match with a so-called website I'm violating (https://concat.in/portfolio/vir-savarkar-airport/). However I didn't use this website at all and furthermore when investigating this website has no information relevant to my edits. It's simply a website about a company involved in construction activities at the airport. I don't understand what exactly is the issue. Please let me know, thank you! - Hello, I just went through the reference copyright checking software and found the problem lies with my edits sharing over 70% similarity with another website and hence labelled as violation. However I looked up this so-called website I'm violating (https://concat.in/portfolio/vir-savarkar-airport/). This is not even proper article and the information there is quite irrelevant to my edits. Please let me know how to proceed. Thanks! Ya-Lun, Shi (talk) 21:13, 30 June 2025 (UTC)

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport
Hey, can I check what the non-independent source you refer to here is? As far as I was aware none of the sources were from the airlines or the airport and the three non-independent sources I had removed have been readded. Thanks Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 06:29, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- You are correct. The sourcing is of poor quality but independent. I will revert. But please review your edit, as most of it is superfluous. The Banner talk 13:59, 14 July 2025 (UTC)

Your reversions of my edits
I edited the short description of Altura, Archuleta County, Colorado from "An unincorporated community in Archuleta County, Colorado, United States" to "Unincorporated community in Archuleta County, CO, USA". You reverted it. I believe that my version was better because:
- It is 53 characters, rather than the 73 of the original. WP:SDFORMAT indicates that short descriptions greater than 40 characters are considered increasingly bad as they get longer, with short descriptions of 100+ characters getting flagged for review.
- It does not start with "An ". WP:SDFORMAT forbids starting a short description with "A ", "An ", or "The " in most cases, and this is not one of the exceptions.
In another reversion, you said "Do not use abbreviations that can mean something else outside the United States of America". The abbreviations here are "USA", which is surely unambiguous, and "CO", which abbreviates a word that is already in the title, so I believe that both abbreviations are justified.
Additionally, I edited the short description of 1944 Ålvand RAF Lancaster crash from "An RAF Lancaster crash in Denmark,1944" to "Incident in World War 2". You reverted it. I believe that my version was better because:
- It does not largely restate the title, which WP:SDDUPLICATE discourages.
- It does not have a spacing problem after the comma.
- It does not start with "An ". WP:SDFORMAT forbids starting a short description with "A ", "An ", or "The " in most cases, and this is not one of the exceptions.

- In my country, "CO" or "Co" stands for County. Wikipedia is not only for one country but worldwide. In the second case, you turned a descriptive description in something that is absolutely saying nothing. Far too general to be of any use. The Banner talk 15:44, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport
Hey, Air Canada Rouge no longer serves Ottawa and can you verify though the airline schedule. London-Heathrow ends at the end of the summer season and return in April 2026 as noted in the flight schedule. Thanks
- Please start with reading WP:AIRPORT-CONTENT that requires independent sources while you are adding the company website. The Banner talk 16:01, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- what would you consider an independent source? The information is only available through Air Canada 198.103.96.11 (talk) 18:38, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Sources that are not related to the airline or involved airport. The Banner talk 02:18, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- So we are willing to be incorrect unless we find a source that is non Air Canada for an Air Canada flight? Doesn't make much sense? 66.23.49.116 (talk) 16:03, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- It sounds more that you prefer corporate spam than a reliable encyclopedia based on independent sources. The Banner talk 01:14, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
- It's not corporate scam when it's the company that does the actual flying and has a link to their own schedule which they operate. Linking to a corporate news article would be corporate scam 198.103.96.11 (talk) 14:57, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
- True, but I did not call it a scam. I called it spam. The Banner talk 14:59, 21 July 2025 (UTC)

IP editor and bad referencing
Can you take a look at 85.199.232.66 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), who has been adding https://travelgossip.co.uk website and a crystal ball article from that website as a reference. I think it's invalid, but another pair of eyes would be useful as I don't want to got 3RR on this rubbish. Thanks. 10mmsocket (talk) 14:05, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Seems to be pretty standard practice to list routes as
Ends 1 January 1970
or similar... can't see anything wrong with that ref either... Danners430 tweaks made 14:10, 23 July 2025 (UTC)- It's not that practice, it's the use of this article that doesn't even confirm the routes have ended, it's just speculation and the website itself seemingly doesn't look a great reliable source anyway. 10mmsocket (talk) 14:15, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's only good for saying the airline appears to be intending to remove the routes... nothing to say it has (past tense), and it's not exactly a confirmation either. Danners430 tweaks made 14:33, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. 10mmsocket (talk) 14:39, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- ....but if the IP reinstates it I'm not going to react. What others do of course is another matter... 10mmsocket (talk) 14:40, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
