Managing a conflict of interest
[edit] Hello, SummersRising. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Pylewell Park, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 09:55, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @ToBeFree thank you for the concern. I grew up locally and I've visited the house as a teenager when they used to run large food festivals. That's kind of it for my connection to the location.
- I stumbled on the mess researching wedding locations "back home" (we unfortunately couldn't afford anything in the area in the end), and being a mod of a large Reddit community it kind of irked me a bit that the page was a mess. It's kind of hard to take the mod hat off...
- I've read through the pages you've linked and I can't find anything on locations or "locals" to the location taking part in editing location pages. If there is, please do highlight it to me! I don't think the rest would apply to me. SummersRising (talk) 10:44, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for the detailed explanation; this relieves my concerns. No worries. But please do have a look at [1], consider that you could currently be described relatively accurately as a "single-purpose account" and have a look at the Task Center or the community portal if you'd like to diversify that. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 11:06, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
- Ah! Good point @ToBeFree. I need to sit down and really work on how to make my edits look presentable and actually reference correctly, which helps with editing confidence. It's very different compared to Reddit and I kind of also don't want to comment too much on areas I'm involved in over there due to doxxing etc.
- My other edits have usually been through Reddit links to Wiki and noticing that something is broken (an authors blog that was not defunct and a spam site etc).
- Thank you for all the help! SummersRising (talk) 11:19, 5 March 2025 (UTC)
