Please help me with... I would like someone to edit something for me for an article on the Sudarium of Oviedo, there are two unreferenced sections on a supposed refence to the relic in 570 A.D at the top of the page which says "However, at the same conference at which this information was presented, it was noted that in actuality the cloth has a definite history extending back to approximately AD 570." and in the background and history section which says "Outside of the Bible the Sudarium is first mentioned in AD 570 by Antoninus of Piacenza, who writes that the Sudarium was being cared for in the vicinity of Jerusalem in a cave near the monastery of Saint Mark.
However, this information is both uncited and misleading. First, the author only mentions a napkin around Jesus head which is not necessarily the Sudarium of Oviedo and so i would like more ambiguity such as changing "definite" to at least "probable". Secondly, The author (Antoninus of Piacenza) does not say the item is being cared for near Jerusalem in a cave near the monastery of Saint Mark but rather says it's in a cave on the bank of the Jordan and then later mentions a monastery of St. John above the Jordan in the next paragraph. Third, just add a citation as given below. I don't know how to edit Wikipedia sadly and don't wanna mess it up.
The link to check it is below. It's on Pg. 11 of the section which deals with "OF THE HOLY PLACES VISITED BY ANTONINUS MARTYR" It's on Pg. 32 of the document overall, (right side, lower corner).
The relevant section says "On the very bank of Jordan is a cave, in which there are seven cells with seven maidens, who are sent thither when young children ; and when any one of them dies, she is buried in her own cell, and another cell is cut out and another child is placed in it, that the number may be maintained. They have persons without the cave, who provide them with food. Into this place we entered with great awe to pray : we saw no one's face there. In this place there is said to be the napkin that was about the head of Jesus. Above the Jordan, and not far from the river where our Lord was baptized, is the Monastery of St. John"

Thank you to anyone willing to help. Spartaneditor0718 (talk) 18:24, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- As a layperson, I am wary of directly citing primary sources in history, as I do not know how to analyze them or to determine what context to read them in. So, I have left out the citation of "pseudo"-Antoninus martyr. I have introduced stronger doubt than you have proposed due to comments from last year at Talk:Sudarium of Oviedo#Definite history?. - Thank you so much. Just wanted more ambiguity so your help is appreciated. I'm aware of not wanting to directly cite a primary source but could you at least add a footnote along with the English translation i linked so other people know where the information comes from if they want to check it?
- That being said you've already done a lot so it's your choice. Thanks again. 97.96.21.73 (talk) 22:01, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- Nevermind i figured out how to edit. Spartaneditor0718 (talk) 02:54, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- Great! Also, when copying from one Wikipedia article to another, please remember to say so in the edit summary. WP:CWW has a boilerplate language you can use, e.g.
Copied content from [[<page name>]]; see that page's history for attribution
. Thanks! Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 05:39, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
