[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contribution(s). However, as a general rule, while user talk pages permit a small degree of generalisation, other talk pages such as Talk:Donald Trump are strictly for discussing improvements to their associated main pages, and many of them have special instructions on the top. They are not a general discussion forum about the article's topic or any other topic. If you have questions or ideas and are not sure where to post them, consider asking at the Teahouse. Thanks. - My post was to highlight existing bias on the Donald Trump article and suggest ways that Wikipedia could mitigate that bias. SaveOurFreeAmerica1983 (talk) 02:06, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

- Hello, SaveOurFreeAmerica1983,
- The purpose of Wikipedia is to create and maintain referenced articles about notable subjects and talk pages are provided to discuss improvements to articles. They are not for the discussion of current events or whatever happens to be on your mind. If you continue to abuse them, your access to them may be removed. Liz Read! Talk! 03:41, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Free speech and Wikipedia
[edit]Hey, SOFA1983, you'd posted here that closing/removing posts on a talk page was a violation of your right to free speech. For the record, you don't actually have a right to free speech on Wikipedia article talk pages like Talk:Donald Trump. Other editors can close or remove your posts for a number of reasons, such as WP:NOTFORUM, or because there's already settled consensus; at that page there is a list of 70 items that have consensus developed through discussions, all of which can be found in the archives of that talk page.
Please be aware that you are posting not only in a designated wp:contentious topic but in one of the most contentious topics on the website. Other editors don't have a tremendous amount of patience with newbie mistakes at such articles. Valereee (talk) 11:19, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
