Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Hey, please add on a table for Indias 11 retaliatory strikes as per the thread I put up there with PIB as the source. Also please remove the second part of the Christine Fair section as her relevance in air duals is not entertained, and it also has a pakistani source Express News, which isn't supposed to be used in analysis citing biases. Apologies since I am yet to be an extended confirmed user in order to make any changes. We need to establish consensus through discussion. Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 12:56, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hey please send your temporary email id here from any temp mail service, I just want to send you a really important message asap. Thanks. DanBritton (talk) 15:16, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Notice that you are now subject to an arbitration enforcement topic ban

[edit]

The following topic ban now applies to you:

You are topic banned indefinitely from all pages and edits related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, broadly construed.

You have been sanctioned for the reasons provided in response to this arbitration enforcement request, especially the battleground conduct.

This topic ban is imposed in my capacity as an uninvolved administrator under the authority of the Arbitration Committee's decision at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/India-Pakistan#Final decision and, if applicable, the contentious topics procedure. This sanction has been recorded in the log of sanctions. Please read WP:TBAN to understand what a topic ban is. If you do not comply with this topic ban, you may be blocked for an extended period, by way of enforcement of this sanction—and you may also be made subject to further sanctions.

You may appeal this sanction using the process described at Wikipedia:Contentious topics § Appeals and amendments. I recommend that you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template if you wish to submit an appeal to the arbitration enforcement noticeboard. You may also appeal directly to me (on my talk page), before or instead of appealing to the noticeboard. Even if you appeal this sanction, you remain bound by it until you are notified by an uninvolved administrator that the appeal has been successful. You are also free to contact me on my talk page if anything above is unclear to you. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 12:47, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Firefangledfeathers: I would want to make it clear that my intention was nothing personal as some may have accused me of being. I am here to learn and surely make a positive contribution. In my defence I want to also make it clear that I came across this topic out of pure interest when I observed these changes taking place. I wanted to hence discuss and only then edit after coming to a consensus because if you notice I did not make a single edit on the Main Article and came straight to the talk page to discuss. I learnt this as a fellow new editor to first take it to the talk page and then edit. I hence wanted to be part of the discussion in order to come to a fair conclusion. Also I'd appreciate your advice no doubt but at the same time the reports I had started on ARE and ANI are still worthy of getting admin attention was what I felt. But I am willing to step aside if experienced editors deem fit. I request you to please reconsider this sanction. A topic ban based on editing behaviour would have been under merit, but both the reports I have filed stand still, of course possibly not on Wareon. I have pledged to not use administrative noticeboards henceforth for pity disputes and disagreement. Hence with utmost sincerity I request you to please lift the ban. And eventually if you deem fit I would only then edit on this topic area to the best of my ability taking prior consultation from experienced editors like yourself. If you find me tendentiously editing again on this TA, then you can impose any kind of restrictions. Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 14:32, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi RMD6. First, no, I won't be lifting the topic ban at this time. As you look forward to a future appeal, the best ingredients for success are:
  1. Waiting a long period. Six months at least, but a year or more is better.
  2. Constructive and collaborative editing in other topic areas.
  3. No violations of the topic ban.
  4. Clear understanding of what led to the ban.
  5. A commitment to avoid the problematic conduct moving forward.
Right now those ingredients are not all in place. You are welcome to request an unban from me directly when they are. There's a decent chance I'll suggest you proceed to AE for the appeal, as it's my preference when the sanction was implemented by a consensus of uninvolved administrators.
I hope you don't take this ban as a comment on your character or worth; it's just that we have some written rules and unspoken norms that you crossed a few times. More editing experience in less contentious areas will help you be a better community member, and I'm hopeful we can restore your full editing rights sometime in the future. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 13:51, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Firefangledfeathers. I'm concerned though that I would not be able to edit on Non-contentious IPA topics, related to daily life, cuisines, health & fitness topics, entertainment etc. Since my mainspace contributions have been healthy, can I ask for a mild sanction? I would refrain from getting involved in any battle/conflict topics especially with regard to IPA. If the main issue is reporting users unnecessarily then I'd not be doing so and consider this my lack of experience this once and a valuable learning gained from this scenario as well. Thus if possible, maybe a ban on admin noticeboard discussions? The user I have reported on ANI has problems although not that I reported them for those reasons I assure you. Therefore, I understand the reasons for the ban and I'll take responsibility from now on and hence this is an earnest request. Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 16:06, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your earnest request. It's the kind of request that will likely be granted once you have an extended period of good editing in non-IPA areas. We don't have that yet, so no, I won't grant the request. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:08, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
