Help at the Ancient Greek Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi! How are you? I have noticed that you say in your user page that you speak Ancient Greek and I was wondering whether you cold possibly help us revive the Ancient Greek Wikipedia at the Incubator. It would be great if you could lend us a helping hand. Jon Gua (talk) 14:17, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jon.
Sorry I've not used this account for quite a while.
Yes, I can read and write classical greek and am familiar with a couple of its dialects. I would be willing to assist to the ancient greek incubator. I'm a linguistics lecturer and lecturer a couple of ancient languages (really purely from the script and grammatical point of view, rather than to teach students to be able to "use" the languages as such). This doens't include Greek. Looking at the incubator for Ancient Greek, I notice there is quite somewhat of a mix of modern and ancient greek, and anachronistic terminology (obvs some of that can't be avoided). But can see some of the grammar feels awkward for classical greek. Again, some of this obviously can't be avoided. I notice terms like μετὰ πλήρους ἀναγνωρίσεως, which is a modern one, but ofc would be difficult to know what to replace it with in classical greek.
If you're still interested, is there something in particular you would like me to assist with?

Thank you so much for answering. The main (and almost only) Person editing that Wikipedia is Anaxicrates. I would suggest talking to him in order to coordinate efforts. There is also a list of articles all Wikipedias should have and another (incomplete) list of articles related to Ancient Greece that can give you some ideas on which articles to edit. I would also suggest to talk to with about the issues you have pointed out. Jon Gua (talk) 19:09, 18 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
